    Loading mag behind safety line?

    Hi guys,

I'm a new shooter and I've been searching around but I can't find an answer to it.

Is it okay to load up the magazine behind the safety line while I'm at the range? My gun will be left pointing down range at the booth while my friend is up shooting.

    Thanks.

Usually. I am sure there may be some ranges that object.

At the range I usually frequent I would be reloading mags sitting on the bench behind the safety/firing line during a ceasefire. Most ranges I've been too are the same way, but best bet is to just ask the R.O. if its okay or not.

I've never had a problem with it - I do usually ask a range officer first though, just to be covered.

Never heard of it being a problem. It's just plain smart to do when sharing a lane with a friend(s).

Last time I was at the Firing Line in HB there was a sign clearly stating no mags to be loaded behind the firing line...I thought that was odd.....but it was there.

Most indoor range won't allow it.

I tend to go to Insight, but I could be going to others. I'm pretty sure I'll mostly be going to indoor ranges since they tend to be open later (most convenient for me).

To me, it makes sense to be able to load mags behind the safety line, but I could see how some ranges won't allow it. I better ask the RO then...

Seems kosher at the ranges I frequent.

Last time I was at OC's Indoor range or whatever it's called - the one in Brea off of Berry I think it is - the back shelf behind the station I was given clearly had a ND bullet hole in it.

If you are open long enough - It of course should never happen and I am sure a rarity - but if I was the owner or manager I'd want to do what I could to minimize my liability.

Not a safety risk to load mags behind the bench, if by load a mag you mean putting cartridges in a magazine that is removed from the gun.

Yes it's safe if you leave gun and only carry magazine to load behind bench but I saw several idiots carry magazine and gun behind bench.

OK as long as you are not handling a weapon, and the range does not have a rule against it. I always load my mags behind the line.

Yeah, you gotta be careful when loading magazines. You never know when one will simply go off. Keep them pointed downrange at all times!
