Look up Platt and Mattix the Miami FBI shooting. They robbed and left for dead people for their guns and car.

I always reload all mags before I leave any BLM or public range.

On BLM, you should be armed, where legal, with a readied weapon until you are just about to drive out the gate.

Public ranges, here in the bay area, the only one I can think of where I would want to be armed and have body armor is Target Masters. That place is shady even with a police station right next door. I avoid that place at all costs.

The other local places are pretty easy going, Metcalf, Coyote Valley Sporting Clays, and Reeds.

Markleys in Watsonville is another shady one I can think of. Still, not as seedy as Target Masters in Milpitas.

I shoot alone in the rural nevada BLM all the time.

Nobody's ever tried to rob me, but then again we don't have tons of trash out here.

I've had people stop and ask if they can shoot with me, though.

I seem to recall a thread about this same thing last year. Only the story was that while shooting with ears on, the douchebag a-holes came up behind them and got the drop on the shooters. At least that's what I remember about it. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Electronic ears, and the mic turned up. I can hear more things with my ears pro on vs nothing.

The second I get 2 feet past the BLM posted sign. I park off to the side. Unlock my pistol box and holster and strap up. Passenger gets the AR ready. Not trying to be billy bad *** military convo. I just don't trust anybody no matter what you look like.

been shooting on blm for 20 years and never heard stories like this unless its on the internet.

Not saying it cant happen its always a possibility.I have been going alone with my kids the past 3 years and never had an issue but im always prepared incase i had to fight for our lifes even if it means carrying a loaded 30 rounder in my mini14 as i drive in and out to the hiways.

The first group of hunters that I met who had been robbed at a LPNF campground was long before the internet. Hunters and shooters have been targeted in remote areas for many decades.

I bet more guns have been lost in home burglaries than robberies out at a remote local

There was also a story about 4 guys in blm that all went downrange at the same time to reset their targets. They left their rifles on their table they had brought out. When walking back to their table they found a couple of guys holding them at gun point with their own rifles.

In Blm always make sure one guy is locked and loaded if in smaller groups, preferably everyone. Even when done for the day keep one or 2 fully loaded mags at the ready until leaving.

When others ride up keep your weapons nearby and your sidearm holstered and ready. Be polite. Most legit people won't stop and chat, they know it's dangerous too. Everyone just nods at each other and smiles and keeps going on their own way.

When going downrange stay armed, preferably always leave one guy with the remaining firearms watching your six.

Blm is lot's of fun, but remember there is little law out there. You're in charge of taking care of yourself. Stories are few and far between so it tends to be safe, just remember you're not at some theme park.

I don't always go to Blm, but when I do I go with 300+ calgunners

Being robbed while shooting in remote areas my not happen often, but remember that traveling in remote areas was sufficient good cause for many Counties to issue CCW permits long before peruta. So obviously it happens enough for LEA's to be concerned.
