    Robbed on BLM?

Not sure if fact or fiction, but I've heard a story or two about people being robbed of their firearms on BLM in and around the Barstow area.

    Any truth in this?

There was a story about a couple robbing people outside gun ranges because they knew the guns had to be locked and unloaded, but I believe the story was about their arrest.

It has been happening all over the country for the last 200 years or so. When people have valuable property with them, there's always a chance that someone else will try to take it by force. BLM land, NF campgrounds and other remote places are common places for robberies where the victim has firearms taken.

I have heard a version of the same thing happening at Panoche Hills in the central valley.

Story goes, couple people finish shooting. Having shot all their ammo they are cleaning up. Vehicle makes contact as friendlies.... "Hey how's it going? You leaving? Can we shoot here? What were you shooting? Gimme me all your guns!" as they draw a weapon.

Something alone those lines. Not sure if it really happened.

Spiddy sense on high when out on BLM. Always have a way out and a way to defend yourself.

Always lowlifes around looking to relieve people of their property. Always be aware of your surroundings, keep your sidearm loaded and holstered as long as you can, unless you're CCW, then you're always GTG anytime.

I'd imagine it happening that way, while loading the car, while leaving BLM, while stopping for burgers after being followed, etc.

              Definitely wondering about Barstow though.

I've heard the horror stories, many of which guys just want a reason to carry, justification like many things firearm people do.

But all the ones I know are I heard/know a guy who heard about a guy. But like CS said, our guns and toys are valuable, usually BLM middle of no where has lower class, and less LEO activity. I don't doubt it happens, it's almost a perfect mix for it. But I personally don't know of it happening aside again from stories passed along.

But usually if we have a group of 6 to 20 people on our shoot days we split up the groups and have radios, that way if one of the groups ever did get held up, we would have a way of back up if you will and protection. Also we have a decent smking of firearms and ammo at these times and most of us keep aware who drives by/comes down the trail.

Both for safety, respect for 4x4ers/rangers and protection from such events. Were not paranoid just aware.

I feel a more common case would be "robbed" by confiscated AW/illegal activity confiscated by ranger/LEO's. But again I know of no personal stories of that either. But my group is safe and sain if you will. We have passed some groups who are not, young and old.

Never ever go up in USFS or BLM land unarmed. The two legged upright walking animals are the most dangerous creature in the woods.

I don't know if I'd say "common" as it implies it happens a lot. Are you saying you know more than one person it's happened too?

I know whenever I go to shoot, the weapon on my hip is loaded until everything else is put away cleaned up and ready to hit the road. I have even gone so far as to drive away from my shooting area to a better place to finally disarm and transport in accordance to CA law.

Though I have no first-hand knowledge of this happening, I too have heard the stories and will be vigilant and not be a victim when I am most vulnerable.

                            four dead /one convicted

Does anyone else remember Quin Amaro?

He killed a family of four who were out target shooting in 1981.

He wanted their guns and was willing to kill to get them.

It can happen, has happened and will happen again.

Google for more details, this was in San Diego.
