How often do you inventory your guns?

Read an article recently about kids planning on stealing a relatives gun to commit a school shooting and it got me thinking. . .how often is everyone doing an inventory of their guns?

I am sure I am not the only one with multiple guns in different spots (at work, in the car, multiple rooms in the house, multiple safes, etc.), and all of them are locked away, or hidden out of sight, so how long would it take for you to know if one was missing?

Up till now I have only been doing a visual confirmation that the guns where in the place they should be on a non-regular basis (maybe once a month), especially in my crowded safe. . .so should I be doing a more thorough check every week? Or am I just being paranoid?

Would like to hear what others do in this regard?

Mine are on me or locked in a safe where only my wife and I know the combo. I told her not to tell the combo to anyone else under any circumstances. She gets it and won't tell anyone. So either someone has to knock me out and take my gun or they have to steal/break into my safe. I'll know about either one by the days end when I find come home to my safe broken into or when I wake up from being knocked out

No one can access my guns without my permission, that's my gun control. But it's a good idea to have a list of guns with serial number saved somewhere.

I have a spreadsheet I update everytime I buy and/or sell one. Dates, serial, sku... I also keep track of who I sell it to.

Keep hard copy photo with serial number written down. Also keep a picture inventory on the computer. All are locked up and secure when not being carried or in use.

Daily inventory in my head. I know exactly where they at the end of the day.

I have all of my SNs stored and stored separately from the firearms as well as on the computer. So when we did have a robbery and they got a few family heirlooms, we were able to provide proper info immediately.

Every six minutes, I account for every firearm, magazine, accessory and round of ammo.

Components for reloading are inspected every 30 minutes during the day, every 45 minutes at night.

Been married going on 5 years now and my wife still doesn't know the combo. Only I have the combo and only 1 home defense shotgun is left out. The shells are locked in a nightstand next to the bed that gets unlocked when I go home and dump the keys out. My dogs are my early warning system to know when to load up.

                        OP- great question.

For loss prevention and child access, many people keep items secure so inventory is not an issue.

I don't bother with inventory because I lost them all in a tragic boating accident.
