I would speak seriously to my daughter about the phone and situational awareness, and keep in mind that if it had gone further, you would have had that bluff hand to fall back on to defend her and yourself. You mentioned that you were applying for a CCW, I would suggest in the meantime to invest in some OC and carry at least a knife. I also suggest for you and your family to be more vigilant in and around your home, especially for a while given the circumstances - I have been a target of retaliation for 'causing someone with outstanding warrants to get arrested' in front of my home

All depends where on your property you're CCW w/o a permit! Open front yard (not fenced/gated) you'd get popped by LEO as an open front yard is considered 'Public' as it is readily accessible to anyone coming on to the yard.

First let me say sorry for any bad Grammar.

I did a stupid thing yesterday but it probably saved us. Me my wife and my 18yo daughter walk out the house to go to dinner. my house sits on a corner lot in a art district shops, restaurants. my driveway and garage are on the side of my house as i turn the corner i see a man and a woman street people laying on my cross street neighbors grass open back packs and and old shopping cart drinking beer. male sits up and looks right and my wife LV hand bag hard.

so i ask if they live around here the female tells me she live 10 or 15 blocks away. i tell them im with neighbor hood watch and ask them what there doing here female tells me she just drinking her beer. at this point my wife is already inside our gate by the suv and i though my daughter was to. i tell them that there trespassing and they should get off the property.

so i walk in side my gate and my wife yells be hide you i turn around and see the male crossing the street fast and is almost to me i reach behind my back bluffing with my right hand and put my palm up facing and yell hold it right there he stops cold and starts yelling puffing up about life is not fair.

now i realize my girl is to my left out side the gate texting and is oblivious to whats going on. he is between me and her. so i tell him you take one more step to me or my family i will blank you blank. he turns and walks away.

at this point other neighbor come out and start yelling at him. police get here and really cant do anything no crime was committed but they run his name he as a warrant for assault. this guy was not sacred of me at all im 6'0 490lb it could have gone a lot worst. im applying for a CCW and im going to have a long talk with my family about are safety.

Sigh...just call the police in the first place. This is how you get hurt or worse, your family. They are homeless people. They aren't going to act rational. Let police approach people drinking beer in the wrong place-especially when homeless, drunk, and a warrant for assault. In hind site your lucky nothing happened. Chances are good they will land themselves with a resisting arrest or assault on a police officer charge anyways.

De-escalate + situational awareness were not very good. You're lucky you didn't have a concealed firearm. You probably would have spent $200,000 fighting a murder charge because you "antagonized" the situation and shot someone without a weapon. I commend you for threatening him with a firearm and stoping the threat that way, but there are so many what if's. Better to avoid confrontation at all costs instead of being mr. unarmed neighborhood watch.

theres no way the OP is 490. Im pretty sure its a typo. Good job OP keep your family safe, Maybe next time dont instigate things. I understand you want to protect your neighborhood but now the **** bag knows where you live. I'd keep eyes in the back of my head. Situational awareness always. If I was in your shoes I might just get in the car, call the police and watch from a safe distance. I would try and avoid confrontation, especially if your carrying.

We don't have anything against anybody and it has never been an issue.

One poster thought it was a typo and another made a juvenile comment. If you read the rest of the comments, they all say that it's completely unacceptable to bring it up in a conversation that is about self defense and firearms.

It's your personal matter and I'm pretty sure that we've heard the last of it. If not, the moderators will kick in and ensure this thread stays on topic and is not derogatory towards anyone.
