28.5% chance I'll get it right.I feel that the "Open Carry Demonstration" goons are over the top. Someone who wants to carry for their own lawful protection and that or their family is not. If you do not understand that and have never been presented a situation that would warrant you feeling that way, good for you and I hope that it never does happen to you.
"I carry 5 days a week, guess which ones"
The open carry guys are over the top. I empathize with them though.Comment

I've been carrying for 13 years and pretty much carry a firearm with me when I leave the house. I don't see a problem with carrying everywhere that is legal and permitted on your CCW. I carry one firearm and one spare magazine.
Am I paranoid that the boogie man is going to come and get me? No, never had to use it or even been in a situation where I thought I might need it. I avoid situations or areas that may put me in a higher likelihood of running into criminals.
Do I answer my door with a gun? No, but I have one easily accessible at all times in the event that something does happen.
Bathroom or shower? My closet is next to my main bathroom and I have a few guns in there.
Do I carry a gun when I take a dump? Only when I'm out in public and CCWing. I don't personally feel the need to bring the gun with me into my own bathrooms.
Do I carry when I go to my kids school to pick them up or to their school functions? Yes, not because I believe that I will have to use it because I know it's a very slim chance of some school shooting to happen. However, I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Plus, no one knows and it'll stay that way, unless a unfortunate incident occurs.
The guys carrying 3 guns, 10 spare mags, wearing body armor, are more than likely new to carrying, and will drop all of that extra weight over time. Is that extreme in my personal opinion? Sure, but as long as they aren't crazy and looking to shoot up a school, than whatever, it's a free country.Last edited by Supertac916; 07-30-2014, 11:40 AM.Comment

Many years ago we mainstreamed the mentally ill which exacerbated not only the homeless issues but also crime and personal safety issues.
Now for the last few years California has balanced the budget by early releasing the criminals back into our neighborhoods. I saw a case recently where an armed robber was sentenced to 22 days of time served and 5 years probation.
While it is too early to tell how this will effect overall crime statistics I do know that my once quiet town now has a larger population of mentally ill, and people on probation/parole then ever in it's history.
As a result we are seeing a significant increase in violent crime in our area which is in conflict with OP's statements about crime dropping etc.
I am not sure how to reconcile this with what we see in my town, Perhaps OP's town is different.
I imagine a lot of people are naive or just in the dark about the number of mentally ill and early release criminals in their town and therefore have a heightened sense of safety. As there are also those who see danger in every shadow. Our current political environment does nothing to help this, but I will not address this now.
Somewhere in this we all must seek a balance.
Of all the people I know who Legally carry only a small percentage have ever been in a situation where they needed to use their weapon.
On the other hand the paper has a story almost everyday about a person who wasn't armed getting robbed or killed.
If I'm going to be one of those statistical groups I prefer to be the first.
As to the thought that there are a lot of keyboard ninja's talking cr4p on the internet and making us all look bad. Well OP does have a point, but this is after all the internet.Only slaves don't need guns

I don't disagree with protecting yourself. If you have strangers knock having your "protection" when/if you open the door.
But, if you live in a place like Walnut Creek or Lafayette and carry a gun in your hand when girl scouts knock on your door......well.......you might be a little paranoid.

I truly think sitting on the sofa drinking beer and watching an NFL game is a waste of time and energy. That doesn't give me the right to say those that do are over the top. If what others do does not bother or harm me or others what business is it of mine.
There are always limits people seek to make themselves feel better. If you don't do what others do they must be over the top.
Let the world go its way and you go yours.
Very good friend of mine lived in a great area and was lying with his girlfriend on the couch with the screen door closed and the front door open. One attacker broke through the screen with a gun tied my friend up with lamp cord and abused his girlfriend. She is a walking mess if you come up and touch her she jumps to this day and that was 30 years ago.
He was safe in his home in a good area with nothing to worry about.
Prepare and live to your comfort level and mind your own business.
Respectfully,
BillComment
