He did have a smiley face at the end winking - so to me that is all tongue in cheek. The poster of that comment was making fun of those who flame and call names, IMO.
That is where tone and intent go haywire on the boards because INTERTOOBS!
Post was deleted (not by me)If it was a snake, it would have bit me.

I freely expressed another form of forum etiquette by reporting his vulgarity and rudeness which led to his post being deleted.I think it is interesting how somebody in a forum expresses their position or an idea, and is called names by some members.
CAguy is simply stating what some people think about wanting to carry everywhere.
By attacking him, calling him an *******, and to go ****himself for his right to express himself, in my opinion is divisive.
You should have the right to respond with your way of thinking. And you did.
However. This type response just feeds the negative stereotypes of most/some/all gun owners being *******.
The Swiss Rifle Club site has a policy of NO personal attacks like the above, or being banned. No exceptions. I wish Calguns had the same policy.
We should all be able to express ourselves without being attacked and called names. I know first hand the results of stating my opinions.

i somewhat agree with the OP.
some people seem all to eager to be the hero. i keep firearms all over my house loaded with one in the chamber (i have no kids and if i have guests coming i do not allow them to enter until i put them away) in case i need quick access but firearms in the shower or answering door with a gun etc etc seems a little nutter butter.
I think it probably has to do with how long the persons been in the sport for. i kinda went through that stage when i first got into firearms but over time i matured with what is a reasonable and likely scenario vs "zombies are coming at any moment" mentality.Originally posted by OHODI guess I could rub my muff against his exwifes muff. Ah the favorite word of many.I get that. I mean some OC spray or a pocket knife is not unreasonable and would even be considered prudent in many cases (walking/running at night, unknown area ect). I just think some take it too far.
Can you provide a time where a man with a concealed handgun license did harm to his child's school while carrying?
Most home invaders knock on the door first to see if someone is home and then play actor. They don't want to break into a house with people if they don't have to. In the shower? might not hear the door knock. If you knock on my door and you aren't someone I know, I have my gun in my waste band. Some people call that paranoid. Not really. I don't think about it and usually forget it's on me it's so comfortable to carry. I don't sit around thinking or worrying about the next attack. Paranoid implies some manic irrational fear of something terrible happening. That is not most gun owners. It's no different than keeping OC pepper spray in your pocket at all times. There is a huge difference between being prepared and being a nut. TV loves to do shows where people are preparing for the end of the world. People unfamiliar with firearms are painted this "gun nut" stereotype where our lives revolve around constant fear of attack. We are normal people just like you or anyone else. We have jobs, families, and hobbies. Our lives don't revolve around constant preparation for dooms day.
I live in Los Angeles County. Not far from where the riots happened in the 90s. There was no law and no national guard to help for several days. I hope I don't have to ever endure that, nor do I ever really think about it. That doesn't stop me from having a few weeks worth of non perishable foods, water, matches, ammo, etc. Random unlikely stuff happens. I never thought I'd hear about anyone getting struck by lightening and dying at Venice beach on a nice day, but that just happened. These type of things rarely happen, but if they do happen, I would like to have a worst case scenario back up situation.
I think you are going about this the wrong way. In a free society we too often ask "why do you need that". Really the question that should be asked is "why do we need to control that". Unless something is detrimental to society, then there is no reason anyone has go give something up. The burden of proof should be on the government, not the citizens. We live in America and we are free men (allegedly).
I don't think you know what the purpose of the second amendment is. It's not for hunting or sporting. It's for personal defense and protection against government tyranny. It seems as if much of this over the top "gun nut" activities/beliefs is fear based rather than rooted in a second amendment/sports shooting/hunting base.
I do agree. There are people who want to be the hero and do idiotic things. That minority of gun owners is the same population who is obsessing about the next thing that will attack them. People keep guns on them all day every day, because if it's in their waste band they won't have to think about if they left it in the house somewhere. Yes, take it off when going to bed. It's so easy to forget that you are carrying for 90% of the time. Driving in a car is an exception with the seat belt. It's about healthy habits. It's like the keys I keep attached to my pants at all times, or the bowl that sits right next the door that I put my wallet, sunglasses, and headphones in so I never forget them. Carrying a gun becomes like carrying any of those things. It's just a random tool added to the daily things I might need. Truthfully most of my day is more concerned with work, dating, school, or exercising. I still become hyper aware when I walk down the unlit street getting off the bus at night.Last edited by wireless; 07-30-2014, 11:13 AM.Comment

I remember a poll on here years ago where the question asked was how many guns do you keep loaded and where in your house.
After reading that poll I became a little worried about my fellow CG.Ners, but then I figured out people very often exaggerate when posting, and the extreme cases post the most often, so take it all with a grain of salt...Comment

I am well aware of the difference between a clip and a magazine
I was referring to the way that some politicians refer to magazines, more specifically a certain elected ca representative who made basically that exact statement. As are the other statements made by varuous politicians. Hence the quotes.
Not trying to be a Richard, but before you correct someone, please make sure they made an error. A bit of searching before you reply is usually helpful.
.30'caliber clip that shoots 30 rounds a second. (Sorry, my post was not exactly what he said.)
The 70-year-old, who led the national task-force on gun control after the Newtown school shooting, made the remark during a Tuesday Facebook town hall event with Parents Magazine.

The question of excessive preperation or paranoia is complicated.
The reality is that in life you get one chance.. just one. You don't get mulligans or do overs.. no wait while I unlock/load my gun.
When someone decides to get you its one chance or PURE LUCK that you survive.
Having guns stashed all over the house seems kind of useless to me because the only "useful" item of defense is what is "on you". Anything else is useless. You get microseconds. The home invasion guy who got lucky and shoved into a closet full of his guns is the stuff of legend.
I live in a pretty good neighborhood for a little mexico but walk down my block to the end and everything changes. I've had multiple criminal door knockers.. one with a nice 12-13" blade already out looking for some short woman to over power.
Crime has NOT been going down.. it has been creatively reported. I studied this and found that most departments are down reporting crimes or reporting serious crimes as a lesser crime.
That and the unreported crime levels are very high thanks to a lack of police presence.
Cooking the books is nothing new. Right now we have more criminals free on the streets than ever before.
Petty crimes and property crimes have RISEN.. the petty personal crimes because of down-reporting serious crimes.
What is even more interesting is that crime is being exported more and more to nice and safe places.
You don't need a gun hidden everywhere.. you just need one on you. Or a knife or something that you can defend yourself with.
The other option is just being a victim, which I know many on this forum support.
Even more there is indeed a lot of foolish posturing. Even more foolish money being spent to have 50 guns stashed, etc. Rather than thoughtful home defense which involves layers and clear thinking. If the criminal is inside your castle or if you only have your last layer then there is something wrong. You need to stop the criminal before he gets on your property, before he gets through your window or door.
Alarms, lights, WALLS, GATES, a security door, etc. LAYERS are worth more than a 1000 guns stashed. Hell, a DOG....but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.Comment

So what is the cutoff on spare magazines?CAGuy,
I carry every day. I put it on to go the grocery store, when I go visit my grandkids, go out to eat, etc.
But I agree with you!
There are people on here who sound like they are going into WW-III every day, questions like: If I carry three guns and the SHTF occurs can I let my friends use my guns? Why can't I list 20 guns on my LTC?, What type of plate armor do you use every day? Where do you carry your 10 spare magazines? Etc.
They sound like a bunch of 13 year old kids who shouldn't be allowed to handle firearms without adult supervision.

I feel that the "Open Carry Demonstration" goons are over the top. Someone who wants to carry for their own lawful protection and that or their family is not. If you do not understand that and have never been presented a situation that would warrant you feeling that way, good for you and I hope that it never does happen to you.

I dont really care how much others carry, and I don't really care about their opinions on how much I carry. What I don't like is that all of us have this certain level and once someone goes past that we start jumping down their throats. Its the same thing the antis do.CAGuy,

My personal philosophy is that I will never inconvenience myself or impede me living my life just for self defense. Because IMHO thats where a person starts to move into the "fear" world. Thats why i carry a single stack 9. Because there has never been a time where I didn't want to put the gun on. It takes two second, and doesnt have any downsides throughout the day. But if I really want a drink, I leave it at home, or unload and lock it up without a second thought. Thats just my personal preference and If others judge me for carrying too much or too little, then whatever, its my life not theirs.
No matter what you do, someone will always judge you for being over the top or whatever.
Go look at my thread about when to tell a date/GF you carry and look how many people ignored the original question and just replied with "just leave the gun at home, are you to afraid to leave the house".Comment
