It dosen't hurt to have a little protection where ever you go.
It's like carrying a knife or a tool. You never know when you might need it, and the benefit of having it in that likely dire moment when you need it will outweigh the hum-drum act of carrying it on your person.Saturday Night Special Expert

It would be over the top if one was so afraid that they woul not leave the home without a gun,iow if not carry meant they didn't go out and live
It is not over the top to want that protection and to favor venues where you can have it, all else being equal.Comment

in this day and age of home invasions, car jackings, assaults in broad daylight, i would have to say i couldn't blame anyone for taking precautions...can one be overcautious, of course, but, without the ability to predict when one may encounter a bad situation, who wants to err on the wrong side of a situation
i'll admit whenever i head to my front door there is a solid chance i will be armed too, but, i really do prefer to be as discreet as possible when im out and about, keeping a low profile is the way i like it best
nowadays we see LE doing things in ways that we consider to be more extreme than necessary, and, the first excuse we always get to hear is "times have changed"...so, based on that element, i would guess it only right that society should have a right to insure better protections for themselves toosigpicComment

I think some of it is way over the top. I have firearms in my home for protection and the range, etc. I grew up in some of the roughest spots in LA and have never needed to use a gun. But this is actually a bigger subject that involves knowing your surroundings and not playing the tough guy role.
Do not respond to every look someone gives you and not expect trouble. Do not get into a road rage beef because you got cut off. Always mind your surroundings. One lock your doors on your car. Do not drive into the roughest neighborhood in town for a burger at 2am. When ever you are at a spot light at night be mindful of cars behind and in front of you.
Listen I would love to have conceal carry firearms but there has to be some limitations.sigpic

"too far" depends on your attitude about it. I, for one, do answer the door with my shotgun. Which I hold up in the hand I open the door with. You cant tell from outside, and it's not like I'm just going to spontaneously off the Jehovah's Witnesses that insist on giving my pamphlets.
Although the definition of Thug I would like to set straight. A Thug (the traditional/correct definition) is/was an assassin primarily working out of the Hindustani region of India that have/had their roots in both local islamic tribes and followers of Shiva (where most of their practices originate). They were known to target travelers, particularly during the summer months, and strangle or poison them after ingratiating themselves as fellow travelers or hitchhikers. Interestingly they would not murder in a manner that shed blood or kill certain individuals, such as musicians. The Thugs were eliminated by the British occupying India, however some contest this. It is not unpopular for certain individuals (particularly lower class African-Americans) to identify with the term, or rather the fear and loathing it generated, without fully understanding its meanings or implications.
Honestly the modern usage of "thug" irritates me, if you couldn't tell.So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

The real question is, how long will it take before the retards who run our country will take away our 2A and we'll be left defenseless against any type of threat.
That'll be when you don't have to worry about law abiding citizen carrying any type of firearm.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment

Better to have it and not need it, than to need of and not have it.
Be prepared.
Hope for the best, expect the worst.
That said, I don't carry, because in my county, we average citizens still cannot get a permit, even though the Constitution really says we don't need one. But if I could get one, I would. And I would carry. Everyday wherever I was legally allowed.
Why you ask?
Why do you need those "high capacity clips that shoot 30 rounds a second"?
Why do you need anything more that a shotgun to "go out on the balcony and fire two blasts" or to " just fire the shotgun through the door"?
Why do you need guns at all, "there are police to keep you safe"?
Why do I need a gun? I don't need a gun, I have the right own to a gun, I have the right to carry a gun. Endowed to me by my creator for the purpose of protecting life, liberty and the pursuit if happiness. Yet that inalienable right has been stripped from me by people who feel that they know what's best for everyone else. Standing behind their armed guards, living behind their gated walls, working in secure environments protected by people with guns, and probably carrying their own guns, of course as we all know, some people are created just a bit more equal than others.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Well regulated:
The phrase "well-regulated" was in common use long before 1789, and remained so for a century thereafter. It referred to the property of something being in proper working order. Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected. Establishing government oversight of the people's arms was not only not the intent in using the phrase in the 2nd amendment, it was precisely to render the government powerless to do so that the founders wrote it.
(Bold added by me)
Militia:
Militia: The term militia in the United States has been defined and modified by Congress several times throughout U.S. history. As a result, the meaning of "the militia" is complex and has transformed over time.[1] It has historically been used to describe all able-bodied men who are not members of the Army or Navy (Uniformed Services).
The necessity (it says this right in the middle of the statement):
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,...
The solution to that necessity:
"...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."Last edited by SonofWWIIDI; 07-30-2014, 4:57 AM.Sorry, not sorry.

Most normal folks just don't have a clue how many inadequate personalities there are out in the community. People tend to cluster together with others who think, act, and look like they do, and they become convinced that everybody (everybody with a brain, that is) is like them.
Every demographic you can think of has a few brilliant minds, an enormous expanse of average folks, and a depressing collection of fools, including terminally immature "adults", anti-social psychotics, and every other flavor of mentally ill, paranoid delusionists (?) and fantasy-land inhabitants.
Two things I learned from Not-Spending-Too-Much-Of-My-Time-On-The-Internoogie:
1. There are some depraved criminals in the world, who will hurt strangers for no reason that makes sense to any sane person, and
2. There are a lot of immature, frightened, and angry people out there as well, and many of them are gun owners."Self defense is not a fashion show. A defensive handgun is not a little black dress, or a purse."
Remember, the overwhelming majority of anti-gun thinkers are not stupid enough to be "afraid of guns." They are afraid of stupid/immature/crazy psycho people with guns.
And as always, being friendly, courteous, and respectful is the easiest way to bend people to your will.Comment

I don't think home invasions and other crimes limit themselves to only the bad parts of town.
Also, I don't think discussing wanting to carry when picking up child from school on a message board for gun enthusiasts makes anybody "look" loony to non-gun people. Now if the guy was OCing a long rifle to the school.....that may make non-gun people look at that person as a little loony.
One other thing - OP should MYOB - what somebody else does or how they feel or why they feel that way is completely personal and IMO has no bearing on how the general public looks at gun enthusiasts.Comment

While I agree there are some people who live with a perception that they are in some kind of action movie, most people simply take their safety and their wellbeing seriously. Quitting a job because you can’t carry at work might be extreme, depending on your line of work, but always having a firearm within reach is not unreasonable. It doesn’t matter what neighborhood you live in, there is always a possibility of a situation where you will need to defend yourself. Where do bad people go when they want something nice? A nice neighborhood. It happens. People do get car jacked and mugged. One reason that crime is on the decline is the growing number of citizens who carry. At home I always have a gun near-by or on my person. I never leave the house without it. It’s like wearing a seatbelt. You don’t know when you’ll need it, but when you do you’ll be glad you have it.
When you use words such as crazy, obsessive, fanatical… you perpetuate an already exaggerated perception of perfectly sensible, responsible citizens.
OP, there is a certain amount of irony in considering your original post and your avatar.Comment

I don't think carrying all the time is nonsensical or an unusual philosophy. In CA quitting over workplace policy against carrying isn't something I would do given the current environment.
If you want to limit your carry time to what you think are high risk situations, go ahead. That seems reasonable as well.
