    So how do you train?

    Hi All,

Been reading up on ballistics, ammo types, penetration etc and I came across an interesting article.

Since range time with HD/hunting rounds is a no-no here, I was wondering what you guys do to find a HD/hunting round that shoots similar to your training round.

Also, if you know of any good websites with information on such info (brassfetcher - as example) would love to see it - books too are welcome .

    As example:

I have heard/seen so many people at the range train with the "lightest, softest shooting" round to work on muscle memory, accuracy, speed and proficiency but then say at home they have a hand-cannon or shoulder-shredder for HD - which to me seems counter-intiuative.

Back in MI it was simple, shoot what you use (hunting, HD etc) but here in CA that is a no-no.

So I wanted to ask what you folks do.

    Handgun, shotgun, rifle - thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

    CNB

PS - because I know someone will say to the countrary, back in Michigan I would just go out to the back 40, set up targets and shoot, but here I am resigned to have most of my time spent at the range - two very different worlds.

    Huh?
What range do you go to that doesn't allow HD rounds? That's crazy.

Good read... theres a few channels on youtube that go into depth on hd rounds..... i test ammo during the week for my carry gun/ match gun.... i suggest testing different brands of ammo till you find the best accuracy..and find a range that doesnt have an issue with hd rounds.

I usually run one or two mags of HD every time I go out, the rest is plinking ammo. - I've never asked if it was permitted

I usually attend classes...or did you mean practice; they aren't the same thing.

Training has to do with learning a technique, being observed performing it and then being critiqued and corrections made to what you did.

When you just go out an shoot to attain a level of proficiency, you're just practicing. If you shoot in competition, you're testing what you have practiced.

For personal practice, I just go to my local range, reserve a Bay, and practice which ever technique I want to work on. I usually bring a friend to run a timer for me and to watch for obvious mistakes I'm making

This thread is a good example of why you should never just start a thread to ask a question and then bail without reading anybody's responses. Champagne-N-Beer might go through the rest of his life thinking he can't shoot hunting and HD ammo at the range, all because he never clicked on the thread he started to read people's responses.
