    Gun shops that bash SSE

I noticed that certain shops that don't do SSE are always bashing the SSE process and calling it an illegal "loophole". They even sometimes say that DOJ plans to go after people who buy guns through SSE.

Are these shops really trying to warn us about the risk of buying a gun through SSE or are they just saying this so you don't go elsewhere?

I personally think these shops are either too cheap to buy the SSE barrels or are too lazy to do the SSE process to sell a gun.

    Anyone else come across this?

If it was illegal to SSE, we couldn't have store bought AR pistols or even AR pistols from 80%ers (to legally build one, you still need to SSE it) and A LOT of people would be in trouble. Therefore, if these stores are right, I'm missing something.

Not familiar with the process, not properly licensed to SSE pistols, some honestly think its illegal which is ridiculous because if it was the DOJ would shut it down, they have to know that? Some say its a gray area and in their opinion they don't want to risk their license.

To me there's no gray area, its either listed in the penal code as illegal or its not,if its not listed as illegal, it's legal until they make it illegal.

I remember many shops were saying OLL were illegal too when they first came out, now all of those shops sell AR's/ AK's etc, several shops who told me SSE were also illegal are now selling them.

Next time ask the shop if SSE is illegal why is there a bill in the CA legislature right now that will make it illegal.

The logical response to that logic would be that the bill would merely close the "loophole" (as referenced by the OP) in an otherwise illegal practice.

From the business standpoint, it's just risk management.

Their store, their rules, our money, our choices.

A friend of mine was looking into a LC9 for his CCW pistol. The shop in Ripon, I believe is the place, told him that because it's not on the approved list the liability is not worth the risk. So because it's fine in the rest of the country it's to risky.

The law doesn't work that way. There are *many* gray areas. The typical example is, e.g., determining whether a muzzle brake is a flash hider.

In case of SSE what matters the most is that the pistols in restored configurations are NOT illegal to *possess*, so even if the exemption under which they were acquired is to go away, the legality of the final configuration makes it a non-issue to all of us who acquired them through the SSE.

I was also very leery of buying an SSE pistol. After doing a lot of reading and talking to several shops that SSE, I made a purchase.

The gun shop in lancaster told me its illegal because its a loophole that people use to get around the law. i disagreed with him...then he also stated that those people who sse are the same law breakers that buy mag rebuild kits for standard cap mags...
I told him that since 1/1/14 that rebuild kit are now illegal.
He said no theyve always been illegal.

I left after that... I posted my experience in the GGun section about it to let everyone know...

I saw an add on here for SSE barrels . Would it be a good idea to get one for an SSE that you already own , just to have. Just in case. .....
