    Used Gun Prices?

I have been shopping for semi-auto pistols from all sources - LGS, online, here in marketplace, local ranges, etc. ad infinitem.

Here's what I don't get - in many cases why are private party prices higher than new from a LGS? The gun may be a couple of years old, on or off roster, but they want more than you can go buy one new from a FFL. In some cases they have extras, like mags, grips, sights, etc., but mostly it's pretty much like for like, but they've put several hundred rounds through theirs. Here in marketplace older models will be MUCH higher than other sales around the country - why would they be worth more here?

The G19 gen 3's are a good example. You can buy a brand new one in the box from a local guns store for under $500. But private party sellers will consistently ask mid-$500's or more for their gun. Other popular models are the same thing - Khar CM9 for $425 when it's on sale at Turners for $379. A XDs you can buy for $500 and they'll ask $650 or more.

I would think a used firearm from a private party would sell for much less than you can buy a new one for. Am I missing something? Is it the sales tax you save with PPT? Why are PPT's worth more than new guns at retail? SSE's are being done by the thousands this year, mostly minimal or no upcharge.

They will catch on when they post "bump" for the third month in a row. This is why most my guns are new. Ill pay the extra 100$ for a new gun then a used one i know nothing about.

You found the Kahr CM9 for $425 and XDs for $500 at your LGS? These models are NOT on the KA roster.

It depends, I will sometimes charge more for a used gun because I am including a holster/ammo/extra mags/other accessories with it you would not get with a new gun, or for example when I sold my RIA.38 super I charged more because when I sold it it came with both the original .38 super barrel and magazines and a fitted 9mm barrel and some dedicated 9mm magazines. Could also be off roster, so you can't buy them in a store without SSE hoops.

If they are charging more for just what you would get at retail, yea they are dreaming, but usually that is not the case.

          ^^^^ Agreed.
I only buy used if I find a really great deal or the gun I want is no longer in production.
Of the 'used' ones I have bought, several were NIB (New In Box) and never fired by the original owners.

Decent firearms tend to really hold their value over a long period of time. Some of them appreciate in value.

Onerous legislation tends to restrict supply. When supply goes down ... price goes up. This is what the anti-2A's know in great detail ... When price goes up ... then maybe it will discourage people from acquiring firearms...

            However ...

Gun control tends to make me wanna buy more guns ... and I do!

I would like to know where to get a brand new G19 for <$500 OTD. Your LGS seems pretty damn good, I'd shop there if I were you.

All the glock 9's are $491 at FT3, 17, 19, or 26. Brand new in the box, latest shipment.
Turners is selling them with fiberoptic fronts for $619. If they put them on sale for say, $559, I'd hop on down there for one. I understand there's dros and tax, but still, I'd rather pay $550 for a new one than $550 for used one. Seems to me ppt dros is $10?

OC Armory had XDs 9 for $540, no extra charge for SSE. 3.3 or 4.0's. Silver two-tones a bit more.

I've been thinking about buying stuff on SSE while we still can. The roster guns will be available any time. Maybe a Kimber micro or solo.

I'm a deal hunter, not wanting to pay full boat retail for ANYTHING. Most things I try to find a way to buy it wholesale, or at least 'on sale'. Nothing is that important to me that I just 'gotta have it now'. I'm also a 'good enough' type, don't necessarily have to have the very latest and greatest. 90% as good at half the price is always good enough for me.

From experience buying and selling here, people price high to give them room for negotiation. They really don't expect to get what they ask in many cases.

Guns in general don't drop in value by that much if they are well kept, and most of the firearms in the marketplace are very close to new. I don't have any problem buying used, if the condition is good.
Sometime the accessories included, the availability, and no sale tax worth paying retail for a used firearm.
But if your LGS have the same firearm for less, than buy it from them, the seller will eventually lower the price. The free market will take care itself.

I've hot nothing but deals in the classifieds here. The ones that ask too much are the ones that bump a lot.

I think negotiation and location have a lot to do with pricing.

I chanrge more for my used guns because I will only buy something that is super awesome and come with the shooting4life awesome seal of approval. This of course was determined by firing said gun (or breaking in if you will) between 50-200 rounds over a 6 month to two year period. Of course the gun has not been cleaned to prove that the proper "breaking in" has been done. The 2nd magazine that normally comes with the gun has been "lost" but the add is only described as coming with one mag.
