The diaper bag would probably do a very good job of defeating the "Single Purpose Container" avenue of articulating probable cause for a search.

I'd just, you know, make sure that I cleaned it our really good before putting my firearms in there.

I get out of my car, pop the hood and start checking out what could have gone wrong. As the cop walks up I say "Hi, just a heads up, I'm on my way to the range and I have three firearms in my truck" He just responds "OK" and asks me what when wrong, and we start talking about my vehicle.

All in all, everything went better than expected.
I call BS. The CHP usually drives right by disabled vehicles where someone might need help, especially when its a Found On Road Dead truck.

That's why. He got lucky and got one of the few CHP/cops in CA who aren't petrified of guns.
Idk what kind of cops you run into, the ones near San Jose have never freaked out when they see the guns. Also, I'm not dumb enough to tell the guy.

My range bag for pistols is an old diaper bag too. Works great!

I have been in one traffic stop with a Chippy while carrying. I could tell it caught him off guard that I had a concealed firearm, but he was completely cool about it.

I have a sibling who is CHP who "informed" us that we need to have our rifles in a locked container when transporting them.

Better put a lock on that diaper bag or you are felonious.

Only a very brave LEO would want to look inside.

That probable cause can be provided from a number of sources. It does not need to come from driver statements.
Thanks for clarifying it. It's nice to have real LEO-s spend time explaining less obvious nuances of the LEO encounter.

I do have to say each and every CHP officer I have ever had to deal with have been very good to me. Some Sheriff's on the other hand, well I'll just keep my thoughts to myself on that one.
