He wouldn't need a practice shot or to dial in his scope. The dime sized group could be anywhere on the paper. It wouldn't have to be in the X-ring.
That was my thought. Now if he's claiming he can put it in the X ring under any conditions that would be different.

But if you're a good consistent shooter, with a quality rifle and prolly at least match grade ammo putting 3 shots in a tight group anywhere on the paper shouldn't be difficult.

He actually may be trying to "game you" with the way he stated.....letting you THINK he mean 3 in the X ring, when really he just means 3 in a group anywhere on the paper.

Make him do it with iron sights at 100 yrds. . . I've shot dime sized groups through the iron sights on my Garand at 100 yards on a fairly regular basis. . .

I can shoot dimes with my .17HMR at 100 yrds, but I would definitely need a practice shot if it was really windy out. I would invite your friend to the range on a super windy day and bet him a beer that he can't do it.

Take the bet. With no practice shots, his first "cold bore" shot will most like be in a different spot than his next 2 shots.

                This isn't any ordinary AR.

JP Rifle make great AR with thick JP Supermatched cryogenically treated barrels, free floating handguards, low mass bolt carriers, JP muzzle brake, and silent captured springs to reduce felt recoil. The stock JP rifle triggers are clean. I would rate it against Geissele and Timney. These are expensive ($2500+) sub MOA accurate rifles.

You throw in a high end scope like Nightforce, US Optic, S&B or Vortex HD scope on it and it will hit dime sized targets all day long using match grade ammo.

                  .40 Cal,

This thread has some targets posted by our resident C&R addicts: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...wpost&t=860041

Check out MJ1's target/rifle, '42 Lee Enfeild No4(T) (sniper)... 3 shots are well in the size of a quarter.

Your average AR is easily capable of that. Depending on skill of the shooter and ammuntion quality, and in case of reloaders, finding the perfect load to tailor to your particular rifle is in and of itself a hobby.

Nope! The pic was crystal clear & almost nothing left of the fly. I cant tell that's a fly in your pic.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

I see people put 3 bullets into 1 perfect circle hole all the time @100 yards.
