Take the bet. And if he does it the first time, he hasn't proved he can do it in ANY wind conditions, and he'll have to re shoot it until all possible wind conditions are accounted for.

Eventually, he's going to not live up to the group size, because he can't possibly shoot every wind condition.

That's a sucker bet. I'd put one on target, two just over the target, and tell the guy I put all three in one hole.

There are many who talk about their great shooting abilities but never seem to get to the range when anyone can witness their feats. Then, there are those who are competing every weekend and don't think anything of 3 shot groups. It's all about 5, 10 and 20 shot groups. 3 shot groups may prove one's ammo and equipment but, 5 shot (or more) groups prove the shooter knows what he/she is doing. Bet him but, tell him you want to see a 10 shot group smaller than a nickel. I'm willing to bet that he'll have a flat on the way to the range.

It is very doable, probably not the center of bullseye but a cluster anyway.

One caveat about forums on the internet: they produce a lot of expert shooters. Its a lot rarer than those people would have you think. Take claims in the office or on the web with a big grain of salt. If you hang out at a shooting range very much, you'll get a much better idea as to what most people are capable of. And its not sub-MOA at a hundred.

It is very doable. Just ask any 3 gun shooter with very expensive AR's using Lilja barrels. Most can hit 400 yards shooting 14" round steel plates with a 16" 1-8 barrel twist. Using 69-70 gr bullets.
And that's with a very good scope.

Agreed. But if you take 1,000 people off the street at random, how many of them actually shoot 3-gun, or palma, benchrest or serious target and put that kind of time and effort into the sport?

Go on the web and 500 of them become Harry Deneen in their own minds.

LOL. That's about 3.5 moa not sub .5 moa. There's a huge difference there.

Though it is entirely possible, my experience is that most people exaggerate, I'd put $50.00 up that says he can't do it. Chances are if you invite him out to prove it he'll have to visit his Mom or something.

Take the bet for $200 instead. He won't do it. He said $1000 to "buy the pot" knowing it's too much for you to call him on it. If he's legit, he'd do it for fifty bucks.

Thanks for chiming in everyone. I do not believe he loads his own ammo. He also has never shown his 100yd grouping when we requested....

LOL - when people used to brag at the range I'd challenge 'em to a dot drill. ten 3/4" dots at 100 yards most hits wins. The wall in the range house was full of $1.00 bills stapled on the beam - ah the good ol' days.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

It can be done.. probably not with factory non-match ammo, but my JP rifles are pretty accurate. I can consistently get ~1-1.5 inch groups in the X-ring w/ my 4x ACOG.. but I know my gun... that is with factory ammo but.. dime size is pretty hard. If it's with irons.. pretty impressive.. if it's with a 20X scope.. little bit less impressive. Everyone on the internet shoots sub-MOA, right? I see the average guy at Angeles' targets... they aren't pretty.
