AK Build Parties

I guess I should preface this by stating that I am not the handiest mechanic to ever live.


Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has ever built an AK at a build party and how their BP AK's compare to store bought AKs.

I built my own and there's just something special about doing it yourself vs. a store bought one.... It feels so much better!

that party is over, the law states you must now use your own tools without help from somebody else. so you cant even barrow the tools to do it. the only option i see is for selling the tools to the next guy that wants to build one. on and on . i missed out on most of the fun.

Sadly, I know they arent legal in CA. I know Rifle Dynamics hosts some in Vegas though. Anyone know the legality of doing a build party in another state?

I thought it was the feds who cracked down on build parties. If so, then they're illegal in ALL states.

Doesn't the crack down just apply to 80% receivers?
What if you build the receiver at home with your own tools then do the rest of the work at a build party?

RD has their students/participants build them on a serialized NoDak receiver. If the rifle is to be sent to CA, it is sent to your FFL just like buying any other gun out of state. But RD decides what will be built ahead of time and provides the parts kit, so everybody builds the same rifle during the class. Not really a build party where you build what you bring.

Wouldn't a build party be legal here if the host has an 07 FFL? Then each rifle will have to be engraved the builder, town and serial number if from a flat or an 80%?
