It's not like the drug dealers and terrorists all got together, had a conference, ran performance tests, and decided to adopt the AK as an official standard-issue weapon. With 60 MILLION+ around, it's cheap and available. That's it.

How about the millions of owners all over the world who do not use them for evil, and are not celebrated for it?

The guns reputation doesn't matter to me. If it works and I shoot it well I'll get it. If you look through a history of "crime guns" most common guns used by criminals in the U.S. were Smith and Wesson k frames, because they were so common. That doesn't mean that the .38 smith is a bad guy gun.

If the thread was not clear enough I was curious about obscure or just relatively unknown events in history where a military, militia, or just plain people picked up AKs for the right reasons. I wasn't asking why or how my friend would characterize the AK like he did.

As stated US forces used them in fallujah.

US forces also used them around other parts of iraq.

Currently AKs are being compliment carried by US special forces in iraq, afghanistan, syria, iran, etc...

The US military has for some time trained and cross trained on foreign assets.
