    DeMagnitizing ammo for socal ranges

Lots of us live in socal and obviously none of the ranges allow steel core ammo.

Which the ROs check by seeing if the ammo attracts a magnet.

I was thinking is there a way to demagnitize the ammo and our problems are gone?

Please don't Bash me about following rules.

Do you not have any idea whatsoever WHY they do not allow ammo that has steel in it, which is what causes it to be attracted by a magnet? Look, I don't like it any more than the next guy because we all know surplus ammo is cheaper. You need to really think this through.

    Here's why they don't -

If they discover it was your bullet that created the spark and started the fire...guess what, you get the bill and any criminal charges that come with it.

This isn't just about following rules. It's about preserving our public ranges from being shut down due to outright negligence. Let's be safe AND smart!

      Can it be done? Sure.

But the problems wouldn't be "gone," they would manifest. The restriction isn't due to magnetism but the sparks and fires that can result from steel (which is what the magnets are testing for). Southern California is at great fire risk, especially with the drought. I don't like it either, but for now it's a safety issue.

You can't cause a piece of steel to not attract a magnet. Find non-magnetic ammo, or find somewhere else to shoot.

Even if you could re-write the laws of physics to cause the steel in cartridge to not attract a magnet, that doesn't remove the problem of a steel core projectile striking something and sparking.

Raahauge's is pretty much (there might be more) the only public range north of San Diego and still in southern California that allows magnetically attracted ammo year round. Burro allows it in the wet season, whenever that is. Lytle Creek is relaxed about it at times too, but they are on Forestry land and have to be cautious. When it comes to the private ranges, they have their own rules.

You need to demagnetize the magnet that the range is using.
The only way I know to get steel to not stick to a magnet is to keep it above 1600 degrees in temperature.
I don't recommend doing that in close proximity to gunpowder though.

                    Yes you can.
Heat it up to 1600 degrees and a magnet no longer sticks to it at that temperature.

Figure it out and the next you you know, shooters will have to buy ammo from the range themselves. Say goodbye to bringing your own.

Definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. Once you figure it out though you need to invent a brass magnet so we don't have to bend over to pick up brass.

Wow...yet ANOTHER choice comment from you. The last being your winning comment that the only reason someone would not have a laser on their pistol is because they can't afford it. Now this comment and further insight into your thinking or rather lack there of. You ignorance regarding all things guns tells me that you need to be banned from all So California outdoor ranges. People like you are part of the reason fires at ranges occur and cause the closure of the ranges hurting all gun owners. "Great thinkers" like you are responsible for a lot of the chaos in our world. PLEASE... Just sell your guns and take up gardening.
