Placing someone on the prohibited list

What ever you do, I would recommend being VERY discreet to avoid things being linked back to you. While you might not be on his list right now, getting him fired or 5150'ed might make you number one real quick.
Hopefully he hasn't been surfing CalGuns looking for info and seen this thread.Comment

just in case, do you have any vacation time accumulated?sigpicComment

But you have the time to try and ruin some guy's life based on your own fear and opinions, whether they be warranted or not.
The least you could do is offer us and your coworker the courtesy of taking the time to validate your reasoning behind your willingness to meddle in someone else's rights considering the gravity of your accusations.Comment

That guy needs practice. I did this at 25 yards with my 1911 Saturday, and my grips were loose. I've since put in some o-rings so now they should stay nice and tight. With a target like this from 10 yards....

Update, after mulling it over for 48 hrs and multiple unreturned calls the FBI has punted over to BATFE. FBI kept advising me to get the person I'm concerned about to call a mental health hotline. They couldn't grasp that someone in his state wasn't going to voluntarily call in. The bureaucratic mess of our government sickens me. I have yet to be asked even once what this persons name is by any of the involved agencies. When I tell them they don't seem to care, I doubt they're even writing it down.
BATFE is still on the same hang up of no actual direct threat. And since no one is quitting their job, not a 422 violation from what I read here. Work psychiatrist he was forced to see flat out refused to discuss his case with anyone. But I did remind him of his obligation to report any threats.
To anyone who may ever be in a situation like this, I would contact local PD (even though they didn't seem to give a damn in this case) and BATFE.Comment

Makes sense. The current administration would love nothing more than another mass shooting involving an AR.

I don't think he's going to do it. I just want do what I feel I should. I'm not going to post links or name him because he has a family and it's a sad situation. The guy is mentally ill.
He hasn't posted any direct threats. Just vague references to some weird book about soldiers returning from war who are addicted to violence. Cops seemed a little hung up on that. I do know he feels several of my coworkers are responsible for him getting demoted. If I were one of them I'd feel afraid, I know at least one is.
A few years ago before anyone knew he wasn't right in the head he approached me about helping him buy a gun legally. I kept putting him off until he gave up or forgot. For some run unjustified reason I didn't think he should own a gun. Boy am I glad I trusted my gut.
Right now he's flat broke. I don't think he could get a gun. I hope I'm right about this.First you say it serious. Then you say you don't think he'll do it and hasn't posted any direct threats only references to a book you think is weird about soldiers being addicted to violence.Update, after mulling it over for 48 hrs and multiple unreturned calls the FBI has punted over to BATFE. Now you post that he was forced to see a psychiatrist at work. How do you know that after your multiple calls with FBI that they didn't talk to the psychiatrist? Also if he needed put on a prohibited list. Wouldn't the psychiatrist report him?sigpic

I consider this a serious situation. I do not think he will actually follow through. There is nothing contradictory about these two statements.
I believe that this person's goal is to strike fear into people. I believe he is smart enough that he is achieving his goal without breaking any laws. I also believe that this person was smart enough to decisive the work psychiatrist and that is why they were not fired.
When you start insinuating firearms violence I take that very seriously.
So, although this person still has yet to directly threaten anyone, I feel perfectly okay in my actions. The peanut gallery can continue to flame away like this is the "off topic" forum. It won't bother me. Actually it just shows me that some posters on this topic have serious reading comprehension issues. All of my coworkers who I have discussed my actions with tell me that I am doing the right thing , and to continue my actions.
I think Timothy Doerner showed us all that things can go severely wrong, even when the appropriate agencies are involved. That mentally ill people can be very dangerous. I am personally involved in this, I will not just sit back and hope that someone else will prevent a possible tragedy.
I am also trying to keep this person from getting themselves in even more trouble, even trouble that won't harm other people. He is sick and needs help. Unfortunately it has come to the point where I feel being stripped of his 2A rights will help him.Comment

He's only insinuated violence with firearms....this mentally unstable person? If you took away his avenue to purchasing a firearm.....legally...or even illegally, he'll cease his violent insinuations? He won't defer to other things like cars, bombs, knives, chemicals, etc...? That's good to know
You're in a tough spot here. Really the only prudent thing to do is constantly monitor him and inform law enforcement. Even if he gets put on the prohibitive list, it's not going to be the end of it if he's truly crazy and willing. Imagine if Adam Lanza was on this list. Would that have stopped him from going to his mom's collection?
Who's Timothy Doerner?Comment
