It's one thing to work for anti gun company's it's another to put your face on the anti side. I would make up an excuse or demand crazy money for it.

lolYou do realize that the lead in Shooter, Wahlberg, is a VERY strong Anti?
So Op, this issue really goes both ways, plenty of actors who are anti but use guns in their roles. You know this is going to get made with or without your help, you might as well profit from it. On the flip side, if the lack of your involvement could stop the production, then I would say by all means bow out gracefully.

Wow.
Reading this thread pretty much explains how the folks in Sacramento got there and why our 2A rights have been trashed in this State.

I'd skip out on it. I'd play a generic criminal but if their role involved a political lie like saying Reagan was a racist or bashing Limbaugh as a crypto fascist (and/or racist) I'd skip them too.I'm really bummed out right now. I've found myself in a moral dilema of some sorts. I feel like I'm selling out, but if I say no to the work, I would burn a major bridge.
I'm an actor, and my service has booked me for a "gun violence public service announcement commercial. I can't say too much about it because I will sign a confidentiality agreement. I know I haven't signed it yet, but there are other details about the shoot that bother me that I can't talk about.
I know it's going to be hard to keep my mouth shut on set. It's really going to be hard to hide my disgust as well.
Some might say it shouldn't bother me but that's just not me. For better or worse, I wear my heart on my sleeve. I've played parts that like criminals and what not, but the fact that this is a commercial promoting something that I am not in favor of, to say the least, makes this different.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions?
There is always the chance, btw, of reverse blowback. If your portfolio came across the desk of a friend of Abe who was casting something... your going to the round file if he remembers the commercial. Being a lib is one thing. Taking part in lib propaganda is another...Last edited by sl0re10; 02-13-2014, 7:51 PM.Comment

OP, youve probably heard this before, but before you make a decision, think of the ripples each choice will make in your life / career.
If you decide to go through with it, I would completely understand and would not think less of you - I've had to make a few very morally difficult career choices, each that represented a crossroads in my working life, but it was in the name of supporting a family, so it had to be done. It was either smile and just do it, or don't and get fired.
On the other hand, I firmly believe in standing up for what you think is right, as cheesy as that sounds. What you think is the right decision is not always going to be the easy or smart one, just like Jeepergeo above me said. If you're a person who prides himself in his moral compass, then I might not go through with it.
I guess what it really comes down to is how important the career is to you, how badly you need the money (especially if others are counting on you to provide), and how easy or hard it would be to find other work in the field.
I understand and respect the weight of the choice you have to make, so best of luck to you.Last edited by Axelgear; 02-13-2014, 8:05 PM.Comment

Well, I did the shoot today. (no pun intended)
Again, I can't really reveal much about the shoot and who was behind it. I wasn't a principal so I buried myself deep in the background. I don't think I'l be getting beat up at the local ranges. haha.
For the most part I kept quiet I was surprised that a lot of people were openly not into the whole anti 2A vibe. I decided that I would donate my day's pay between the Cal Guns Foundation and the NRA. I think it's a nice little Judo move on my part.Comment

Oh, I forgot to add, I heard about the huge? victory for concealed carry in California on the radio on the way home from work. As weird as it sounds, hearing that news made me feel so much better about doing the lame PSA. I really felt like we are starting to win the good fight for our human right to self defense.Comment

This is just my opinion so no one take it personal. When I am at work on the job being paid by my employer my opinion on the clock is that of the person paying me to be on that job site. When i'm on my time off the clock I have my own opinion.VW's Are not for Hippies...
