    Rem Oil Alternative?

    Guys,

I think Rem Oil is great but the fumes are very toxic.

Can you recommend an alternative where the fumes are not toxic but that cleans and lubricates just as well?

    Thanks.

You're going to find that people have their own personal preferences when it comes to stuff, you really need to find one that works for you.

That said, I personally use Ballistol after switching over from Hoppes. While the Hoppes to me smells better, I found that the Ballistol actually removed some gunk that was left in my barrel from using the Hoppes. That, and you can use Ballistol around the house for a bunch of other stuff.

        You mean FrogLube?

        There ... I said it ... Heh!

That Breakfree CLP stuff seems to work pretty good.

A can of 5-20 weight oil from pep boys

          If you want fancier
          Can of Slick 50

Militec is a great lube. Use a hair dryer to heat the metal parts and the stuff really seeps into the metal.

A tube of white lithium grease also works well

          It's just oil.

As with Tiffanies or Rolex, marketing and small packages make it expensive.

Lube is a silly topic. You can ask 10 people and get 20 different responses.

My advice? It's not that expensive to try different things. Thats what I do and have done for years. I don't have a "I will only use this" attitude.

You guy should look at my cleaning box. I use or have used FrogLube, CLP, M-Pro7, RemOil, Hoppes, and others.

Honestly, it all works. They all do what they are designed to do... I have found no major difference over the years using several lubes on several guns.

Right now I'm using M-Pro7 products. Non-toxic, does not smell horrible, and it works.

Slip 2000 EWL. Non-toxic, no petrolum products used, no smell. Works as good as anything else made, maybe better than most.

I have a whole one of those Costco storage rack shelfs full of different stuff. Looks like a massage parlor for guns. Different stuffs for different apps plus some stuffs I've tried & didn't like.

Didn't know Remoil was toxic? I know it has PTFE which isn't really good for some apps.
