Go for it, it's a great price for a great shotgun. If I didn't have two of them, I would take advantage of this deal.sigpic

Sounds good. Do you think Mossberg puts out a better product? Why do you already have two? One for each hand to lay down the law if the scenario presents itself?Comment

I recently purchased an express magpul. I already shot a couple of the $25 100 round birdshot boxes and no ejecting or feeding problems.Comment

Avoid the Express, get a regular 870. Or spend a couple extra dollars and get either a Benelli Super Nova or Nova tactical, both msrp for about $500. Or you could always try to find a pd trade-in, send it off to Wilson for their Remington Steal job. Don't know if a single police department that uses the Express either, yeah it is basically the same gun, but there are differences. Think of the Express as a base model car, and the regular 870 and police as higher end trim levels.Last edited by P5Ret; 01-18-2014, 10:08 AM.Comment

I have an older (maybe by 10 years) express 870 that hasn't been a problem. I've put several hundred rounds through it. Is it going to break on the next shot? Perhaps but the track record for this one at least is good.
All that said, save your money and buy a 1187 Police instead. I love mine, it is north of a couple thousand rounds through it without coughing once. I purchased a 25" barrel for it to use for clays and the 20" rifle sight barrel is very accurate with slugs. It is heavy but you will appreciate the weight after a couple boxes of shells. Mine feeds and ejects birdshot and buckshot without a problem. It even works upside down if you happen to be standing on your head or hanging by your feet while shooting.Comment

Or, you could buy an old Wingmaster for a couple two-three hundred buck and send it to Scattergun Tech. and for another 300.00 you'll have a super reliable H.D. shotgun. http://wilsoncombat.com/new/shotgun-remington-steal.asp
Or , for about another 700.00 +/- (including your old Wingmaster) you can get a really nice "Border Patrol" model. It doesn't get much better than that.

Damn, My Maverick 88 has never failed me at half the cost of that beast of an 870.sigpic

man, all these people with problems with their 870 express really surprises me. I have NO issues with my standard wood stock 28" 870 express.Visit my Channel "Steel On Target" on YouTube and subscribe. I post gun videos reg regularly.Comment

I like the 870 Police but I've always managed to pinch my fingers on the loading gate at least once every time I've loaded one. I went with the Mossberg 590 years ago and have never looked back. The floating loading gate plus having the safety up on the tang where I can both reach and see it easily put it over the top for me.
Regardless, the Remington and the Mossberg are both proven designs with zillions of satisfied owners. Pick the one that you personally prefer and I'm sure you will be happy with it."A vote is like a rifle; it's usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore RooseveltComment
