I bought the 870 ATAC Tactical version last year. It has the common failure to eject issues everyone talks about. You can polish the chamber or just keep shooting it till it gets better. Kinda disappointed. It will NOT be replacing my Mossy for HD duty.

I wouldn't buy the current 870 Tactical. Too many issues with reliability, too many features cut in the name of price and profit. If I were buying now, it would more likely be the Mossberg.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

He'll be able to tell you exactly what various police departments use in their police cruisers.

You'll also have to think about what you wish to do with your shotgun. Is it for clay shooting? Hunting? Home defense? A little bit of both?

Also, Benelli shotguns are not for the rich and famous. I have 2, a Benelli SuperSport and also a Benelli M2 Field Compact. Women don't rip their clothes off and ask me for my autograph on their bra and my bank account won't impress anyone.

          Check out Benelli SuperNova.
LOL that was the funniest stuff I've heard all day. Thank you.

And thanks for all the input, I think I'm going to dig deeper for my shotgun. This is primarily for home defense or SHTF, and maybe some clay shooting. Its regular $400, on sale for $370. Maybe I should do some more homework and get something that's going to put a smile on my face before I go to sleep?

I like the Benelli's but I'm not about ready to spend 1K on a shotgun. The reason I wanted a shotgun was to broaden my arsenal. I already have the 9mm Beretta, have the weiny .22 LR Marlin. I want something and a shotgun seems like it would be fun to scare any home intruder and show the friends/family that you mean business.

Sorry to get off subject... Aren't the mossbergs known to be a bit on the cheaper end of the spectrum of shotguns? I always see them at Turners for around $300, not even on sale. I also have heard that alot of ranges don't allow shotguns with the pistol grip triggers.

Thanks again guys for the help. I'm sure I'll make a decision within the next week (before Turner's ad changes)?

I think the current 870s are very rough.

I cut myself once cleaning out the inside of one. Lots of jags and burrs.

I'd dremel them out before cleaning the first time.

Most people will disagree with me, but I'm not a fan of pump shotguns for defense at all.

Don't buy a shotgun unless it has a wood stock. Sometimes it's just better in the long run to buttstrock some moron rather than shooting him.

It's called the ejector housing, and yes, you will have to replace that, the ejector spring and rivet + refinish to change it out.

I bought an 870 for christmas, put 12rds of double ought buck federal through it no issues, had issues with the cheap crap Winchester bulk "low steel" loads. I polished the chamber but havent been back out to check it out. Again no issues with real defense ammo.

I've shot one... jammed a couple of times at first. Functions fine now except the White dot on the front sight fell out.. Great gun except for those issues

Owned one for a few years, never had a jam, never had a single issue. I loved it

So why did you sell it? I'm not getting the best reviews here.
