What info is collected and or stored at DOJ during the "pre 2014" long gun purchase? All info is stored on paper but does the info stored electronically just display as "long gun" without any other info?Comment

So I guess as long as dros starts prior to the new year, I am ok.sigpic

Just posted this in the litigation forum:
I checked with 3 different FFLs yesterday, Riflegear being one, and was told unequivocally by all 3 that the DROS just has to be started before the end of the year to avoid registration. That's when the information on the form is transmitted to the CA DOJ. Date of pick up is no matter.sigpic

No link, just common knowledge that until the FFL signs the 4473, the gun is NOT yours. The FFL is under no legal restraint to give you anything until that form is signed. The firearm is not yours until you pick up the firearm.I don't think that's correct. The Wiki says "Beginning Jan. 01/2014". If you DROS before that, AB809 does not yet come into play. It really has nothing to do with when the firearm is "yours". The registration info is collected and submitted during the DROS which is done on day one, not day 10. I briefly skimmed through the AB809 text looking for something to prove either one of our opinions correct or not, but didn't see anything. Do you happen to have a link handy?
So if you register a gun and the FFL doesnt give it to you...what then? Its a civil matter and also Federal law allows them to tell you to screw-off if they want. FFLs have gone out of business with customers not knowing where they guns were and just got some of their money back. Some got zip back and were told to file a civil case.
I have heard of the same gun being sold to two guys. One guy was just given his money back at the end of his 10 days.Last edited by CWDraco; 12-09-2013, 10:14 PM.Comment

I was at Big 5 yesterday and they had signs up saying you had to make the purchase before 2014 to avoid registering.
And speaking of long guns- if you are on their mailing list, they have a sale on 00 Royal buckshot at a box of 25 for $15. I think today is the last day. You need to show them your email so they can use the bar code.Comment

The other day I was at an FFL, and there was a sign posted about CA not accepting any background checks after 9 PM on Dec 14. It went on to say that they would resume background checks on Jan 1st, 2014.
Doesn't this mean you can't pick up a gun or start DROS until after Jan 1st? Was this sign bs? Or can you still purchase/pick up guns between dec 14 and Jan 1st?
This was said to affect ppt as wellComment
