    FFL TRANSFER FEE

I lived in No. County San Diego and I inquired at a local gun store how much they will charge for an FFL transfer. The rifle that I was gonna purchase is also coming from CA and this is the quote that they told me:

    FFL Charge: $90 including DROS

This is the crazy part, he said that CA needs to charge me taxes for the purchase! Price of the Rifle: $370 + 7.75% = $398. 68. I thought this was crazy cuz I did not purchase the rifle at the gun store.

Is this a reasonable price for an FFL transfer? Unfortunately, Im just gonna look for a bolt action rifle locally.

Transfer fees can vary. Here a list of FFL's and their fees. Shop around.

Is $90 reasonable? To the FFL, whatever the market will bear is reasonable.

As a consumer, I'd say $90 is a rip off. There are 3 different FFL's I go to near Manteca. All charge $25 plus the dros. Tax only on items bought in CA. Of course, I do all the grunt work, fax the FFL, pay for the firearm, and have it shipped. Since the FFL only is doing the A&D entry, and the transfer itself, $25 in that case is reasonable.

If its a gun they did not have in inventory, you are essentially providing them with business they wouldn't have had without you. You should expect a reasonable fee for that service. If the FFL is ordering it for you however, that's a bit different.

DVLDOC. What store was that at? I would love to know so that I don't ever shot there again. Also, Don Gussler only charges 25 dollars for FFL to FFL transfers which is only the DROS fee. He is also a very good gunsmith. He lives in Santee. Let me know if you need his info.

if your on your way up to Huntington beach theres a guy who does it for $50 OTD but i don't think it would be worth it to drive up here just for that with gas prices the way they are.

Yeah, I ignore these stupid 'Transfer Fee' threads unless they talk about $75 PPTs, then I pay attention and cross off the store from my 'to visit' list.

Thanks, Chief! I let you know when I need Don's info. BTW, the store's name is Duncans Gunworks at San Marcos.

Sorry if I offended, but I usually use the 'search' button on any site, before I pose a question.

I was just trying to say that this is a common gripe among Californian gun owners. I think that many people don't understand that an FFL can charge whatever they want for transfers, but only $35 for PPTs.

Your post should be: "FFL X is charging a butt-load for transfers. Does anyone know of a low-priced FFL in Y region?"

It is not a question of offending. It just gets tiresome to get on this B.S. over and over again. Then we have to listen to A.D. and his B.S. about his great 10,000 people in line to do 3,000 transfers a day at only $25.00.
