Big 5 sucks!

I just bought a shotgun around 2 weeks ago. I just showed my driver's license and filled out some paperwork for the background check. Didn't bring a second proof of residence and didn't need a DMV printout. Is that unusual at Big 5 or are shotguns an "easy" gun to get? I thought shotguns and rifles were the same process.

Exactly, I think there is more to the story than we are being told.

I will say the Big 5 in Walnut Creek has handled numerous long gun transfers for me as a seller and buyer and I have also bought a few cheapy long guns there, all with no issues. They also have great deals on tubes socks, running shoes and T-shirts. Can your local gun shop offer that?

Unfortunately, there are no more choices anymore in Walnut Creek and it's convenient.

Bottom line is have all of your paperwork in order before going it for a gun transaction and don't be an A-hole, and you should have no problems.

Anyone that has been posting on this site for any amount of time (OP has 1774 posts) knows that Big 5 is not known for their expanded knowledge of gun laws and related transaction issues, yet every few months we still hear about these Crappy Big 5 gun stories. If you go to Big 5 expect issues since the Chick you are dealing with behind the counter was just stocking jocks and gym shorts before the dude at the "sporting goods section" went on lunch. If you want better customer service and only want to deal with friendly knowledgeable gun experts, then go to a gun store! Oh wait, there are a ton of complaints about those stores too in other threads!!!

I have my pen and paper ready, please explain how post count correlates in ANY way to the understanding of big 5's firearm sales policy.

and you're getting the whole story. the same paperwork my wife used to buy her rifle at CWS is what she used here and big 5 wants to make it difficult. Jesus, do you have stock in Big 5 or something? Calm down.

When I went to pick up the shotgun, the sales person came back from running my background check and said, "Well, you're not on the "bad" list. That's always good. I never understand why people seem confused when they don't clear... like they forgot they had a felony."

At least gun stores can usually do the paperwork. Other than that they are FUD factories and full of d-bags in general.

Now that I'm out of CA I try to do all my purchases PPT which don't have to involve anyone but me, the seller, my money and my CHP, if the purchase requires it. No BS from FUDtards. It's actually quite liberating.

I have never had a issue with Big5 in Concord. Tyson the mgr has been there for like twenty yrs and there is never a problem.

Big 5 and turners have both taken vehicle registration to correct an address on a Drivers license when purchasing a long gun.

This is an invalid argument point. If every other gun store in the area accepts the paperwork I/my wife presented, and this one decides its no good...we wouldn't have known that until after the fact anyway.

It's not a second proof of residence. It's a form that comes from the state to show your new address after you've moved and the address on your license is no longer your residence.

I bought a Mini 14 last year at Big 5 and only needed my drivers license. The only thing unusual was having to wait 11 days instead of 10.

They are more picky than most places, they want more info than usualy need other places. I still will check out whats on the rack as occasionaly something good is just sitting there on sale.

I have enjoyed my visits to big 5. But I have had problems in places that others love. So I guess individual results may vary.
