There is a "Grande Cinco" where the local Big 5 used to be. I don't know what they sell, but there are still sporting goods in the front window."Controlling carbon is a bureaucrat's dream. "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
-- Thomas Jefferson, 1764

The one in San Jose across from Eastridge Mall still sells firearms and ammunition. I just rescued my new Ruger 10/22 from purgatory confinement today at that store. I must admit though, they're starting to have more airsofts than real guns on the shelf now.
P.S. Has anyone noticed that if you pickup your rifle there and want to look at the ammo for that gun while at the counter, the staff member has to put away your rifle behind the counter before they can hand you the ammo to look at?"Can our form of government, our system of justice, survive if one can be denied a freedom because he might abuse it?" --Harlon Carter

Yes. When I went to pick up my 10/22 and some ammo, I had to pick up one or the other first, go put it in the truck, and then come back and pick up the other.Originally posted by KestryllI want to be Princess Anastasia today because I feel prettyOriginally posted by QuarterBoreGunnerKes is really just an errand boyOriginally posted by KestryllI am NOT...anything other than a schmuck...Comment

They are starting to sell alot of airsoft and bb guns now because they are easier for them to sell and they are only going to sell them where the sales are good. They might stop selling real firearms altogether but who cares, why buy a rifle from them anyways?Comment

I was there last Friday and you are correct. I was also surprised to see no longguns.Citrus Heights.
The gun counter guy was busy taling to another chap, so I didn't ask, but I did notice:
All the guns in stock that I could see were air rifles. Daisy, Crossman, GAMO... No shotguns, 10/22s or any other firearm *that I could see*.
Anyone else noticed this in the CH store, or any other Big-5?
Not a good sign...

it's not even airsoft, they just sell clear plastic toys
my local Big5 habitually calls me stuff like "cho" and "lee harvey" so I stopped going thereOriginally posted by AJAX22Anti gun BS...

Interesting. Just today I was over at Sports Authority in Folsom, and noticed that they appear to have done away entirely with their guns/hunting department. Other than some odds and ends on a "clearance" display, no more firearms, airguns, ammo, optics, cases, etc. were in sight. The whole area has been rearranged, with some fishing stuff spread out to fill the empty space. Of course, there were no actual employees anywhere in the vicinity to ask about what had happened. I never purchased any firearms there, but have bought cleaning supplies, a couple of Daisy Red Ryders, a cheap-o Simmons rimfire scope, and some other things over the last few years. It's always a shame to see another store stop selling guns. Maybe they'll at least keep a really trimmed-down counter like the Wal-Mart over here, with a few scopes and some ammo...Last edited by heavyrecoil; 07-04-2008, 2:22 PM.Comment
