Not to mention tons of underwater debris you can get entangled in.

Why do so many here think it's important to report it? If it's not a RAW or otherwise "registered" somewhere, who cares if it gets reported or not? The antis have programmed you guys well, haven't they? It's just a piece of personal property. I would put as much time into recovering it as I felt it was worth. Who knows? Maybe a magnet will work. But, if it's only a $100-$300 rifle, is it worth the time and fuel to look for it?

I get what you're saying, but if it goes into AFS or whatever, you might get it back if someone recovers it.

Yes, but it took all the next day to figure out what we did wrong. We found the campsite, packed it up and left.

That rifle will be destroyed after a week in the delta.

I stayed in a vacation house in Tahoe , in a bookcase built into the bed head board was a gun box , no lock. I had kids with me , so I opened it and there was a loaded 22 pistol. I called the owner and he called the last person to rent it and they had forgotten it

I guess you don't own too many, do you? I once FOUND a rifle that I didn't even know I owned. I had completely forgotten about it and, it just sat in a job box in my driveway for several years before I went to move the box and found it. Tujungatoes was there to witness this and can attest to the fact that I was puzzled for a good 5 minutes until I remembered where I had gotten it from. Loosing a gun is far easier than loosing car keys or eye glasses is.

Actually, a really easy dive for an experienced freediver which jfifer is. I'd put 20$ up that I would of got my gun back. Sounds like an average day of abalone diving.

Lost 2 tents, sleeping bags, stoves, fuel, all the normal stuff plus fishing gear and yes...one rifle which was hidden under some brush next to the camp site just in case someone happened to find the campsite while we were gone. It wasnt that someone stole all the stuff, it was physically NOT where we marked it on the map. No GPS at that time. Where we marked the map didnt even look like where we set the camp up. We searched for 5 hours til nightfall, then made the emergency decision to give up the search and hike the 6 miles back to the car.
                      Aliens took your campsite, obv.

That used to happen to me all the time. Back when I lived in AZ and had more money, I would buy a gun every 2 or 3 months. Sometimes 3 or 4 at a time if a gun show was good. I would stash them in boxes all over the place, and find one every once in awhile that I couldn't remember buying or ever shooting.
