    Advice on lost gun

A friend of mine lost a firearm in the California delta while hunting and fishing. What are the steps to take to report to DOJ of a lost firearm? Any help would be great.

No reporting to the DOJ.. but he should file a lost/stolen firearms report with the Law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over the area that the gun was lost in.

That will get it into the stolen gun data base.

There is indeed a form you can and should fill out and send to the doj for this. Best to CYA.

OK, I've been following these "Boating Accident" threads for a while now. As a CGN member for quite a while I've always been impressed with the sense of firearms safety of our members, but as a retired Coast Guard officer, I've also been kinda dismayed with the frequency of "Boating Accidents" that our fellow members seem to be involved in, although I have been equally impressed with the amount of planning that has gone into some of these accidents. Somehow, all of that safety-mindset just disappears when you mix a Calgunner with water.

The gentleman below seems to have done enough work on his boat to be able to have an accident almost every time he leaves the dock.

As a side-note, can anyone explain the difference between a "Tragic Boating Accident" and a "Horrific Boating Accident"?

For the OP - Please do make "Lost" notification to your LE agency. This will create a "Lost" entry in the Automated Firearm System. That will provide an avenue for the weapon to be returned to you if found, and will assist LEOs in the event that someone else uses the weapon in a crime.

If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

I think "horrifying" is when somebody actually does lose a gun in a boating accident. I'm beginning to suspect these all too common "tragic" boating accidents involving the loss of firearms are spurious claims at best. I could be wrong.

The down the street from me (a cop at that) set his personal carry firearm on the back of his boat for some reason while packing to leave for a trip and then drove off. He remembered after about 10 miles and backtracked, but it was never found.

It was a rifle, my buddy set it against the bow of his boat and was fiddling with something and accidently kicked it out of his boat when he turned around its in the bottom of the delta now in about 30 feet of water.
