Advice on lost gun

As a side-note, can anyone explain the difference between a "Tragic Boating Accident" and a "Horrific Boating Accident"?

Lose one firearm = Tragic

Lose more than one firearm = Horrific

It was a rifle, my buddy set it against the bow of his boat and was fiddling with something and accidently kicked it out of his boat when he turned around its in the bottom of the delta now in about 30 feet of water.

If you could find the spot, you might be able to fish it out with a magnet.

Haha it was really windy not worth dying over 30 feet of water noob diver no dive gear really murkey water? Thats alot of pressure down there its okay ill keep my life.

You can find some scuba divers who might be willing to spend an hour in the murk or dark the area with welding magnets (as shown above).

I lost a whole campsite in Washington. 6 mile hike inland. set up camp at night fall. next day the 4 of us took a 3 hour hike for food (hunting) and sight seeing, we never found our camp site again. Lost 2 tents, sleeping bags, stoves, fuel, all the normal stuff plus fishing gear and yes...one rifle which was hidden under some brush next to the camp site just in case someone happened to find the campsite while we were gone. It wasnt that someone stole all the stuff, it was physically NOT where we marked it on the map. No GPS at that time. Where we marked the map didnt even look like where we set the camp up. We searched for 5 hours til nightfall, then made the emergency decision to give up the search and hike the 6 miles back to the car.

I was in a mechanized Army unit. We dismounted more often than we used our vehicles. Usually the driver and TC stayed with the vehicle, but on this day they came with us. The driver only had his 9mm as a weapon and the the lazy acting platoon sergeant didn't want to carry his M16, so he switched. He then put it in his waistband as we humped it through rain soaked Germany.
Until the First Sergeant came up to the patrol and asked who lost their weapon several miles back, it went unnoticed.
Sadly it happens a lot more than people will admit to.

one time years ago i drove off from the shooting range with my makarov on top of my car. i only drove about 100 ft before i remembered and reached up and grabbed it. but it can happen. that is why i never set things on the roof of vehicles anymore never

I lost a pistol once for a short time, it bounced out of a container mounted to the top of a dune buggy.
I back tracked and fortunately found it laying in the dirt right by an area that had a large natural jump.

Oh and I know a guy who left a shooting bag at a public outdoor range filled with .223, 9mm and LCMs. He posted here that some lucky SOB just got about $200 worth of legal LCMs post 1/1/2000

The down the street from me (a cop at that) set his personal carry firearm on the back of his boat for some reason while packing to leave for a trip and then drove off. He remembered after about 10 miles and backtracked, but it was never found.

I'm sure somebody found it.

30 feet deep, moving water, no visibility, temps probably in the 30's. I bet you wouldn't make it to the bottom and if you did you wouldn't last more than a couple seconds. The delta is not a lake, it is moving water with strong currents. But hey, go for it, jump in and let us know how it was.
