    Angeles range reloading store problem

I get that we can't keep crossing everyone off the GTG list but my experience was pretty bad and I wanted to pass it on.

I was out there last week. Stopped in the reloading store and bought some [actual] bullets and asked which of the primers to use with them. I didn't even need primers (I already had 2.5k of them at home) but I wanted to support the shop. Anyway I took the mildly overpriced (forty something dollars for 1k) ones the employee recommended and went home and double checked (I'm new to reloading but I have yet to blow myself, or my rifle, up by double checking everything). Wrong primers... Remington 6.5s... not recommended for .223 (the type of bullets I showed the employee and bought with the primers).

Ok; so I stop in today and I went over the issue quickly and ask about an exchange. Employee shows 0 concern someone at the reloading store is giving out bad reloading advice (doesn't ask day, time, or who helped) and says nothing he can do. Points to policy on the wall that says certain things can't be returned. I say; you could do something to make it right even if it means I keep these and get some kind of store credit. Guy repeats himself saying nothing he can do despite my pointing out I think he could do something to make it right if he wanted to. Goes another round of nothing he can do at which point I can't tell if it is just delta bravo-aggery on his part or he is trying to tell me he doesn't have the authority (but he does never offer to try to escalate up to an owner and/or help me in any way). I say ok then but I'll never be back. Guy says ok. I leave and write this up. Gonna post it up on yelp next.

To top it off; because of the hazmat shipping rules I can't just ship this to them (to get a signature / evidence I gave them their item back) and dispute it on my credit card. It would cost almost as much as the item to ship.... errrrrr... I'll still call and see if they'll do anything...

Sorry to hear that. There is one guy I know of that works there that is extremely helpful, then there is a grip of people who don't know what they are doing, yet are pleasant. Then there are the one or two that are being inconvenienced by your presence.

Next time, have a list of the compatible components you need when you go in.

And you can list your new primers for sale or trade in the classified section of this site

good advice. Yes; I had remington 7.5s at home and if I had that written down I would have been fine.

Just sell the primers and be done with it.

I put an ad up, to sell them, as soon as I figured out they were the wrong ones.

I tried returning them today since no one wants 6.5 primers.

I buy a lot of my reloading components here, and just like many stores, you will not find many experts on the subject. Prices are pretty good though, especially the 223 and 308 projectiles which are on par when you factor in shipping vs. tax. They can direct you to where things are located, but don't expect much help when it comes to powders or primers. Too bad I get no signal there otherwise I'd look up all my load data, but they have a Lyman's 49th edition that they let you look over. They also let you "handle" the merchandise so take a look at whatever you are buying first before you do buy it. If I were you, I'd shop, but just don't take their advice as it is a good shop with friendly people.

Total bummer. I shoot Hornet but even I can't use 1000 primers just for that.

All true but I don't really want to go back at this point.

If I find an on line vendor with better prices (say thirty something dollars for 1k primers and other corresponding low prices) it negates the hazmat charge and comes out the same... so; that's the plan considering how I was treated.

                  First world problem #3758584.

FWIW most if not all stores that sell powder and primers have a profound no return policy.

Middle class first world problem. I'm out $40 and it burns.

and hey; like I told the guy at the shop... I'm asking it be made right; not necessarily that they be taken back. I also never asked for a refund. Just a credit... and I would have been open to a less than 1 to 1 / 100% credit....

Just FYI, you can use Rem 6.5s in place of small pistol primers. Just start at the minimum and work your way up, looking for pressure signs (like you should with any load, but especially for this).

I did the same thing you did when I first started reloading. I was planning on loading .223, ordered 2,000 6.5s on the internet, got them home and saw the warning on the box. DOH! They sat on my bench for a couple years until someone mentioned using them as SPPs. I ended up loading them in a batch of 9mm, every one went bang with no issues at all.
I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

It was 3k a few weeks ago.... I took the reloading class in OC offered a month ago on the forum and I'm cranking out rounds... but I didn't know the primers to use by heart yet (do now....) and I still don't know all of the powders I can or should not use. At basspro the guy checked the reloading book before telling me a powder was ok for 223. Would be nice if the people at the 'reloading store' made sure they were right first also...

When I was a kid I used to hit primers with a hammer.
