You're right, morality doesn't exist at the macro level in capitalism. And supply and demand dictates morality isn't a concern at ANY level.

The entire point of this thread was to examine the beliefs and behaviors of those that rail on about their freedom, the 2A, socialism taking over their rights. Then in the other breath, complain that there are those who look to make a profit for themselves instead of charging a "fair" price. Maybe my example was too convoluted. Whatever.

As for my business, I brought another perspective to the discussion. You want to avoid my business? Easy. As long as you're not in the Central Valley, we won't cross paths.

Actually, I'm not looking for anyone else to say it's ok to overcharge. I'm actually more interested in the climate of our culture. So I guess I'm trolling. I see guys in OT and in the marketplace thread crap for gouging, then I see others saying "don't like the price, don't buy it" and "Capitalism... 'Merica!"

Dunno about the climate of our culture but the deal outlined in the OP makes me think I would not want to do business with that person. But that's just me. Now... $700 with full disclosure would = "Right" AND "Ethical." Some people want it "right here, right meow!" and have the $$$ for it. More money than time.

Anybody is perfectly welcome to offer their cheapazz bulk .22 for $75/brick on the marketplace but I'm dam sure gonna try to find some way to have some fun at their expense!

OP, you're ripping your neighbor off and it's NOT ethical dude. Do the right thing and sell it to him for exactly the same price you paid, and you will feel good about it and to avoid unnecessary hard feelings from him in the future if he finds out what the RIA is selling for. Finally, it is always good to have a neighbor that is into the shooting hobby and supports 2A.

Interesting responses. About half are what I expected. I paid $600 with tax and DROS and it is a new gun. I haven't shot it yet and bought it factory new. The ammo is a 100 pack that I paid $40 for with tax. .

Then charge him $640 for the gun and ammo. It would be pretty much a douchebag move to add on another $100 just because you want him to subsidize the S&W for you.

Without knowing what you paid, it's difficult to answer your question. Just remember he's doing you a favor by buying it from you, otherwise you'd have to go through the hassle of listing it, finding a buyer, and dealing with a stranger.

Normally, I'd say it's fair to add a reasonable markup for finding it and the trouble and cost of buying it. But in this case, I'd sell it to him for what you paid. Just because he said price is not an issue, doesn't mean you should take advantage of him.
