Wouldn't you also concur, coming on the eve on a Presidential election, it effectively ties the hands of any incoming Prez that seeks to further diminish our gun rights?

The huge majority of gun grabbers laws/regulations/arguments have always used that there is not an individual right to bear arms. This argument is now gone.

Yesterday in California: 2nd Amendment is a collective right; NO individual right to arms. Period.

Today in California: 2nd Amendment is an individual right.

That is a big win, and gives a good foundation for fighting some of the laws we have here. My glass is half full.

I think this means that shall issue for CCW is a real possibility - sure it will no doubt take court actions, but this is a good ruling non the less.

As I read the opinion (very possible that this is wrong) is that license restrictions are ok as long as they are not a de facto ban. BUT they do not outline what restrictions are ok and what are not.

Guys - Im not trying to just be Mr. Negative. My main point is that there is a LOT of work to be done.

Also - I kind of consider this a draw because we reaffirmed a right and the state/fed reaffirmed their right to restrict our right.

I agree that this is not a huge win that will change our lives in CA overnight by leaps and bounds. What it is (as has been said) is a foundation. Now we can start chipping away.

What makes this a big win is how staggering the loss would have been if this went up for a collective-rights court. If SCOTUS had declared no individual right, we would be disarmed or at war by the weekend. Seeing that possibility die is definitely worth celebrating.

I'd say we got a full size drink of water in an oversized glass here.

Not quite. Although 2A protects an individual right, the 2A wasn't incorporated via the 14th. Somehow, I suspect that there are cases already in the court system here in California that now can use Heller to possibly lead to California's recognition of the 2A and later, lead to 2A incorporation.

All my life, 59 years tomorrow, the question of 2A rights has been a black hole. I've read the dictionary and I knew that the correct reading of the 2nd ammendment was " the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". Now the Supreme Court has stated that is true. The anti's have tried to read it as "if you are in the National Guard you can carry a gun if they let you".
This ruling puts that to rest. RIP
This is huge. It may not mean I can go out and buy a nuke or even a machinegun...But if I feel the need to carry a loaded pistol across the street to my shop, i think the law is clearly on my side now.
