Fumigation and Guns

There should be some kind of company that stores guns for things like that. Shoot if I had an extra safe I'd lone out the space and I have done that for a close friend when his house was tented.

Absolutely no reason to open a safe. Id tell them to beat it and get a different company if this was insisted on.

If you want to keep it, move it out during the fumigation process. I'm fact, I might even move the safe out for the duration too. Why let them even know you have a safe?

Lol. Maybe. I knew of a couple inspectors that would bang housewives on the regular. Others are just REALLY REALLY anal and control freaks.

You would be surprised how many home inspections I did with housewives wearing nothing but t shirts. I had a fiance at the time but If I was single, there was plenty of woman that seemed interested

Alot of the inspectors I knew were either male chauvinists or anal retentive control freaks.

I quit because the company I worked for, the boss was a tight butt who skimped on crew guys. Every inspection I did, the crew messed it up. Also the poor old people whose spouses had passed on. They just wanted someone to talk to. It made me sad

They completed fumigation a couple weeks ago at my condo. We were required to open any "large" gunsafes to be inspected and tagged. They did not have to be left open, just tagged to show they had been inspected. Unfortunately BrokerB's suggestion is not an option. I do not believe you can simply switch companies to avoid this as it is not the company but the state that requires it according to the fumigation people. I removed anything I did not want prying eyes to see or that I was not willing to have stolen before they tented the building, including firearms. There were no issues with ammo or anything else explosive or combustible like propane, lighters, camping fuel, etc.

If someone is locked in your gun safe I think they have more problems than an impending fumigation.

Biggest issue during fumigation seems to be thefts involved while the property is tented. Many believe these to be inside supported jobs, where an employee of the fumigation company tips off his buddies when and how it will be safe to go "under the tent", get what they want, and not die in the process.

All the people claiming all these thefts during fumigation are "inside jobs" have no clue... I'm sure some are, but while most criminals aren't the brightest bulbs it's really not rocket science to figure out: fumigation tent = no one home = free goodies with no one around. This equation especially holds true if, say, a whole apartment building is being fumigated.

To the OP: Take anything valuable (that can't harbor the pests you are trying to eradicate) out of your house before fumigation.

We recently had our house fumigated. A few days before the job they delivered plastic bags and instructions on what and how to pack and prepare for the job. Part of the instructions included leaving doors to cabinets, closets and any other enclosed spaces open, and safes were one of the examples given. The explanation was to allow the gas to both penetrate everywhere and also to be allowed to dissipate afterwards.

I emptied my safe and left it propped open. I was not concerned that my guns might be damaged, I just did not want any of the tent crew to see what I had. Ammo and reloading supplies were stored as usual, in ammo cans which were locked in an unsealed lockbox in the garage. When they came and tented the house I was there and did a walk-through with the foreman, and made sure the whole crew was aware that we would be living in our RV parked out front until the job was finished.

Everything went just fine.

Unless they want to be the one locked in the safe, it wouldn't happen here. I will move the whole thing out before they get a glimpse.

Move all your guns out of the safe and leave a bunch of Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch Kids, Hummel figurines and other worthless crap your mother in law has been collecting in there... when the fumigators come to inspect and fumigate, the word will be out on the streets you have crap to steal and they'll leave you alone

The explanation is to open up gun safe to see if there are other things aside from guns that could be damage by the gas.

I am still planning of getting my guns out during the inspection.

I am also adding more cameras inside the home just to record any activities inside.

they shut off the power when they did mine. you have to open the safe to let them look inside to make sure there's no body inside on the day they come to tent, then you can lock it.
