Wrong. It is not his right to buy ammunition from me, a private citizen. If someone wanted to buy ammo from me and I got a bad vibe, for whatever reason, I would not sell to them. I have the right to refuse my service to anyone, for any reason.Originally posted by CAguyReading some of these responses is a clear indicator on why we are so thoroughly f*cked in CA. The real sad part is how people justify their irrational fears the same way that the anti's do; telepathy or simply believing perceived basis and applying it as a whole to a group (like they call us all gun nuts/baby killers/mass murderers ect) who dose not look like them.
These same people gripe/moan when people don't want to deal with CA, when a company won't ship to CA, or a law is passed that lumps in all gun owners yet they have no qualms about doing the same thing.
Even in the C&R forum I often see "must give a copy of ID" "must sign a deceleration" hell one guy was asking for a car license plate number before he would meet to sell some measly ammo. This is all unnecessary and "anti-freedom" , yet when others (ammo bill recently) impose the same on our community we piss/moan yet we feel no shame about doing it to our own community members.
Point is, if our own community is distrustful of one another to the point of erecting unnecessary and cumbersome walls/barriers to the full legal exercising of a right they find "uninfringble" why are they surprised when the outside community dose the same?
This makes all of our arguments lame/null/void.......high horses and all. We are all James Holmes in their eyes. Constitutionalism minded gun loving folk should know better.
The ammo bill wasn't about keeping ammo out of the hands of criminals, it was just another Jim Crow style way to infringe on my right to keep and bear arms, and to shake down gun owners for more money. If a gang member couldn't buy ammo himself, he knows plenty of people that can legally buy it for him. However, what the bill would have done is basically create a poll tax in order to practice my God given right. It also would have prevented online sales, so that some people, mainly people with C&R guns wouldn't be able to buy ammo for those guns. How many LGS routinely keep .303 British in stock?
I have no problem with private citizens being wary of selling potentially lethal goods to people they get bad vibes from. If I owned a convenience store and a guy came in with three 16 year-old girls and tried to buy a 30 pack of beer, I would refuse to sell it to him, and it would be perfectly legal.Comment

If a private citizen did not wish to do business with me, I would go spend my money somewhere else. That is how the free market works. However, I don't look like a gangbanger, act like a gangbanger, dress like a gangbanger, or speak like a gangbanger, so nobody who has ever spent 5 minutes with me, has ever mistaken me for one. Discriminating against an entire race is different than discriminating against one person who you think looks like a gangbanger.Originally posted by CAguySo with you being a black fella and all I guess people should be free to not sell you ammo because they could be worried that you may go and commit a crime with it and by your standards it should be "perfectly understandable" since blacks are responsible for a lot of the violence in inner cities? Oh and anyone who goes to the store with their nieces to get beer is no good in your made up world police warrior/telepathy crime fighter mind? Please.
These judgments are idiotic at best.
If I had a reasonable belief, formed from observing the people in question, that the man was buying alcohol for minors, I would not think twice about refusing to sell alcohol to him. The law provides for refusal of service in cases like this.Last edited by Trenchfoot; 09-18-2013, 5:19 PM.Comment

This argument isn't about guns or ammo. It's about the right of a private citizen to do business how, and with whom, he wishes.Originally posted by CAguyI made my bones with this way of thinking. The anti's use the same logic and by your own measure people should be free to deny you gun sales/ammo sales simply because you may be a criminal, related to a criminal, related to a gang-banger ect since a lot of blacks tend to do these things and they are being cautious since you MAY do something wrong; afterall, you are the color of the majority who do wrong so even though is is irrationally based, it is rational to the person if they go by sheer numbers alone.
If you can't see the error in this type of "short yellow bus" thinking then I don't think any further discussion will help.
Just remember this when the anti's make their argument on why guns should not be in the hands of private citizens and lump us all in together. Guns make them FEEL uneasy and they want validation for their "feelings" also (weather rational/fair or irrational).
If I was selling ammo and the guy that came to meet me was dressed in a Nazi SS uniform, I would probably not feel comfortable selling it to him. That is my right. If he was able to explain that he just came from some WWII re-enactment thing, that would probably improve my comfort level to where I would sell it to him. If I recall correctly, the OP ended up buying the ammo, because he was able to convince the guy he wasn't a gangbanger.
You are however, comparing apples to oranges. Me deciding that I don't want to sell ammo to someone, doesn't infringe on their rights. the government deciding who gets to buy ammo, and making them pay for the right to do so, does.Comment

Dude I know how you feel, I sold some ammo awhile back, I was wearing black shorts and a dark blue shirt (looks kinda black) and the guy thought I was a Raider fan. Ive never been so pissed in my life, almost didn't sell him the ammo, What an A-Hole.
