There's no such thing as too much .22LR
I don't shoot because I like guns, I shoot because I hate paper.

There's a mistaken impression that conservatives don't like the environment. We do, we love the environment. We just call it the outdoors and we go there to kill stuff.

They weren't the ones that started all the assumptions about what was going to be banned. But believe what you want. All the panic buying started because ignorant people "knew" Obama was going to use EO's to ban firearms, which he can not do.

Really? I seem to recall something about the Senate threatening to pass laws banning assault weapons and such things, had a lot to do with it. Maybe I was dreaming all that.
"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

Let us not engage in willfull denial.Obama may not possess the constiutional authority to decree "Assault Weapons" illegal, but it wouldnt have stopped him from trying.

What did was the practical realization that nearly every Sheriff west of the Cumberland Gap would ignore him. Without a large army of Federal enforcement officers,an EO would be unenforceable. He thus had no practical choice but to go through Congress..which is Democratically controlled.Things would have turned out differently if the House was under Dem control ...or if Obama cut a deal to get their cooperation for a vote.

Until the Senate voted down the Toomey-Mancheck bill,it was all in the air.The previous time something like that happened at the Federal level we got the 1994 AWB.

It's only a matter of time now that we have the DHS. And it doesnt matter who is in the big house, DHS will expand. Fueled by war on terror and war on drugs money. We can always start a new war too to funnel more money in there.

                Unlikely.

The level of manpower required to serve warrants and process the paperwork alone is enough to crush the largest bureaucracy. There are 300,000,000 firearms in estimated circulation in the United States.Ensuring all of them and their owners are accounted for would require a support staff which would make the DHS look like a lemonade stand.

That's not including the need for trained door kickers to actually "get" the weapons in question. It's a logistical impossibility for a nation of our size .Britain and Australia are both islands, and even they were only able to seize 20% of the guns in their respective nations.Obama -and his successor-could order guns to be outlawed, but there'd be no one to enforce it.

Without Congress lending legitimacy-and the concurrent support of local law enforcement -a White House decree has as much weight as me,SilverTauron, declaring the NFA invalid .

Bummer, that's even worse. We know what Brittan and Australia and NZ are like... and it only took 20% confiscation to make it happen? Depressing.

Just spoke to my old man back in the UK. 22LR is bountiful and around three pounds fifty per 100. That's about $5, but the key word is bountiful. He keeps calling me up and telling me about his shooting expeditions.

Of course, I make sure I remind him to keep the guns, bolts and ammunition all separately locked up and when he travels to lock the guns in the trunk and the bolts in the glove box...

I saw it happen in the UK, and we didn't have near the same gun culture here. There were no jackbooted thugs coming through the door, just all the sports guys shipping their single shot target pistols to into Europe and shotgun and rifle owners getting their permits and having a policeman come round to check their ****ing security.

Meantime of course, criminals were picking up Barretta 92m's coming from the U.S airbases for a couple of hundred quid in the pubs. Now it's whatever gets imported with the narcotics from overseas.

Meantime of course, the cops are slowly getting to the point where they are all armed. Civilians have zero defense guns... so the only people that are armed are criminals and government employees.

Of course, the criminals don't actually have that many guns. The gangs and the dealers do, but to menace the civilians you don't need a gun. All you need are fists, a knife, a bat or to work in numbers.

The criminals LOVE gun control. The generation before mine handed it to them on a plate. Right now, whatever anyone thinks of California I can tell you better here than there. It's a big battle, but we have the culture here to climb the hill and fight back until the forward momentum that's moving around the country gets here.

Anyway, I wandered off there... the biggest harm stockpiling ammo and buying sprees is it really messes up people looking to get into guns. We need those numbers - people per gun, not just the amount of guns out there.

I learned that I am a passionate 2A proponent. Funny how that happened.

He definitely put it out there. People could argue it was red meat for his base / he had no real intention of passing new rules.... but I think he put a finger in the air and had the public been more into it (you know, more than 90% in favor....) he would have pushed hard for it.... but the public was not into it...
