Dunno if this is germane but one of my dealers (i.e., someone I do biz with) is headed to the Reno show. I told him what I'd read here. He said he's aware of the risks but that some of the dealers at the last Reno show needed to be busted.

He said one guy was trying to sell a silenced machine gun. This guy was arrested.

Another guy had a sign to the effect of "Cash sales only. No paperwork."

I personally have known of people who try to stretch the limits of credibility and then complain when they get busted.

One local dealer (Modesto) had an inventory of assault rifles when Kal outlawed such. He took his inventory and cut off the pistol grips and flash suppressors and continued to do business even though the specific rifles had been banned (by name, I think). The DOJ confiscated the entire inventory and he shut down.

I just don't think it's wise to push the issue. We live in perilous times, the 2nd Amendment notwithstanding, and should exercise caution. Law and order. That's us. Or, it should be.

That was him. As I said it did not hit me till this thread that he may or may not be a govt goon. I will look for him next month and ask him point blank. I was looking at his old Ideal reloading manuals, thats why I stopped. I am a sucker for old reload info. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yeah, well I'm sure he's not gov't bait. The 'G' would set him up to have many more tempting wares than just 1 FAL with a possible 922(r) violation.

[922(r) violations are relatively minor for possessors (not manufacturers), usu resulting in, at worst, loss of weapon.]

Also I don't think he's an FFL. Since he'd apparently be an infrequent seller - his wares are paper goods & reloading supplies - a private cash & carry transfer to an NV resident, not known to be a felon, would be legal. He just didn't know that sales to out of state folk were illegal.

You are prob right but if I see him im gonna ask anyhow. There was another guy with Savage model 99's saying he wouldnt ask for ID if I was paying cash. I just walked away from him. As I recall he wanted 450 for a 300 Savage model 99. I would pay that for a 308 or 35 rem. Not a generic 300 rifle, I like the caliber but it was created to beat the 30-06 and never did. There are a lot of 300's out there. I wasn't really thinking about what he said so much as I did not want his overpriced rifles.

Whew it took us 7 hours to drive to reno due to a fatal accident ahead of us. 6 of us in a Durang o would not have been bad for the 3 original hours but did get cramped on the boys in the far back.

I did not get hassled or anything but did have one funny incident. I was looking at a barreta Storm in 45 ACP and the salesman said it looked as though I should own it. I told him I was from CA and he said well you could buy it and visit it. He was grinning all the way. Nice guy I could tell he saw my frustration from not being able to have one of those.

Were they running serial numbers and checking ID's of individuals walking into the show with firearms to sell, be appraised or repaired?

No, they were not. Just checking to make sure they were unloaded and then putting the tags on them.

The reason I ask is that they were apparently doing it at the last Las Vegas show.
An acquaintance from here went there with a Glock pistol to purchase some after market parts and have them installed on his pistol by a vendor who was at the show.
Anyway, he gets to the show and finds that not only are they checking guns to insure they are unloaded but also running serial numbers and drivers licenses.
No problem, he’s not a criminal and the gun is registered to him.
Shortly after entering the show he is accosted by the local authorities, handcuffed, searched and drug away for a couple hours of interrogation.
He unfortunately has the same name and similar birthdate of a felon in North Las Vegas.
Nonetheless, he is eventually released with no apologies or even a "have a nice day" after it is learned he does not match the description of the felon and his ID is confirmed.
Figured this might be SOP now for Nevada gun shows.
What my computer can't handle, my rifle does nicely.

Took me 7 1/2 hours (I stopped for breakfast.) Did you backtrack to Colfax and head up through Grass Valley to Hwy 20?

I did find a nice 1940 vintage Enfield revolver from a private party table. He didn't care about my C&R FFL, just the cash. Fine with me. It was a legal sale and I got his name for my bound book.

Well, I hope it was a good show. I was not able to make it due to the big I-80 accident on Saturday morning. We were stuck near the front of the big mess, probably just behind it by 5 minutes or less. I guess in one sense we were fortunate.

After several hours of waiting in traffic they finally got us turned around and headed down the hill. After breakfast, visiting some local gun shops in Auburn and Penryn, we gave up waiting for the road to open.

Very bummed out. Was hoping to run across a reasonably priced Winchester 1894 with an octagon barrel. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Also wanted some grip screws and other misc items.
