    Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately I'm still unsure if I can use my mortgage bill as a proof of residency. Maybe its one of those things that each store has its own interpretation of.

Register to vote and use your voter registration card. That would work I think.

Quiet posted the regulations above. I don't see mortgage bill as meeting any of those options.

this is probably your best bet if you don't have any utility bills in your name.

or, you could so something like get your 03FFL to get POR.

Actually, since just about everything else is in your wifes name, how about just making the utility bill(s) under your name permanently. I don't know your arrangment that you have with your wife, but since you are married, and you bring home the cheddar, what's so hard in just transferring your name under the utilty bills from now on?

Just go to a local title company and ask them to print out the deed of trust for your residence, or you can go to the county clerk's office and pay for a copy.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Go to the DMV and ask for a print out of your driving record at the first window. Cost 5 bucks and no second line to wait In.

For an OR permit, the sheriff would accept my Costco card. Pretty cool.

Dude, renew your nurse license! I use my psych tech license all the time as my proof of residency.

Most of the further discussion beyond the clear concise answer is usually people just trying to convince others that the Penal Code/Case Law doesn't really apply because their uncle's friend's cousin's son-in-law works as a gardener for a retired judge from another state who might or might not have said he doesn't think it applies to a certain case that has absolutely nothing to do with the question the OP asked.

The only other possible thing I have in my name is the mortgage statement that I get from the bank. Both cars are in the wife's name, as are the utilities. Almost every other bill is in both our names, but none of those could even work.

The gun store said a mortgage statement wouldn't work. But I've been told by other stores that it would. So who is right in this?
go to the DMV and get an address printout. I think it cost me $5? can't remember. I had to do that because my driver's license addr is different.

FIRST ask the place you are buying it from as to what THEY accept. It is up to them as they have to keep it on file in case of an audit. I had the same issue as all my bills are in the businesses name. I did what DTOM did and printed out a rental agreement and just made that out and "rented" from my mom at my address. Since you do live there and if they come knocking you will be there it is perfectly legal. Fixes the problem and just keep it as it is good for as long as you live at the address.

Get your name put on one of the utility bills (such as Cox or SDGE) and wait for the next bill.

Mortgage bill won't work because that isn't exactly services rendered to your home. good luck!
