    Shooting steel

I've always wanted to shoot steel and I finally found a gun shop that had them in.

I took it out today and I really don't think I want to ever shoot at another type of target....I love shooting steel man. It's a legit reactive type target, not an accuracy type target but I just like knowing I'm hitting without having to look.

    Anyone else enjoy shooting steel?

I actually just built a stand this past saturday. My order of AR 500 gongs from TheTargetMan.com (also a vendor on here) will be coming in tomorrow. And later tomorrow a friend and I will be taking them out to some open land. I am actually so stoked about it. I shot a flipper style .22lr steel target for a while, but soon after I started with steel, they banned it from my favorite local range because some dumb asses were shooting it in an unsafe manner.

Glad you enjoyed it. Just remember to do it safely.

Kicks the crap out of shooting paper. I sight in on paper, but after that, I go straight to steel. Get some reactive targets! I've got a full silhouette target with a swinging hostage taker plate and that thing is a blast!

You should try USPSA or IDPA. Now that's some serious fun! Some would argue, the most fun you can have with your clothes on while outdoors.

I bought a set of smallbore silhouettes years ago and love them. They put the "plink" back in plinking, where shooting aluminum cans not only make no sound, they often don't even fall down because the bullet passes through them so easily.

But you have to be cautious about splatter--always wear eye protection.

I enjoy the steel pistol range at Oaktree. Much more fun than paper.

Why buy one, when you can make one for half the price.....

reactive targets are the cat's meow. Or the dog's buttlick. Animals are so weird. I digress.

Love steel targets - be sure you are shooting the right loads at the right distances otherwise it could be a fire and/or safety hazard. Be safe have fun

Dude! That's almost exactly the set up I made!

As far as safety goes, I always wear eye protection and I don't think I got closer than 100ft and won't unless shooting the steel specific loads.

I'd love to get into IDPA or uspsa but with ammo the way it is now I feel like I could get no real practice in on the range.

Steel Challenge is a blast & a gong!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Want an addictive challenge? Start shooting vintage military rifle silhouette matches -- 500 meter rams and 385 meter turkeys will make you really learn to shoot! The chickens and pigs will too, but oh, those turkeys!

We shoot welding tanks set at 200-300 yards out at a friend's 45-acre spot and get nice sounds when hit.

We also made a rack to hang some steel targets on that I bought at a local metal supply shop.

*tires you see stacked are to weigh downsome other racks we bring to hang paper targets for sighting-in if needed*
