What I thought was intresting at the time was that they could stop sales ,And cancel a gun show while people were packed up and on the way . The other day at the LGS a dude said to the salesman Ill take that one pulling out his CC . When told he had to wait he yelled he was a American , It cracked me up. In my City they have no Gun stores . All ran out.

If you're shooting 100 rounds a week (I wish I could get to the range this much, but it's not unrealistic), 10,000 rounds is about 2 years worth. That's a good pad and should get you through tumultuous periods so you aren't forced to pay inflated prices to keep your rate of training up.

      That's my $0.02 anyway.
100 rounds is about three magazines worth. I do that in 10 minutes with a "scary looking rifle".

You need to learn to conserve ammo.

We (my family and some friends) were stuck up in Burbank for a wedding. I had a clue that problems were coming and had two Mini-14s and a couple of tuned .45 autos. (pre glock craze). Fires and smoke were close by, freeways were getting closed and we decided to stay at the Burbank Holiday Inn. I was driving my Chevy One-ton Dually and as we pulled up to the courtyard to register most of the doors were locked with employee's standing guard. No guns were visible but as I registered the clerk was relieved we were a normal bunch of people who were dressed well (wedding clothes..haha) I asked him if we could bring our guns inside.....he looked both ways and calmly said 'sure' no problem. He motioned for a kid to help us with out bags and my number one son slung the 2 Mini-14s (with slings) on the rolling luggage rack and we all proceded to elevator up to the two adjoiniing rooms I had rented.

One of my really good friends who was really not into weapons or shooting sports worked at one of the Studios close to Burbank. He had left work and because of road blocks and detours around fires and rioting was a little late getting back to his condo complex. Unknown to him, the condo complex was close to a troubled area with fires, window smashing criminals and general gunfire could be heard. He couldn't get thru the parking lot gate because someone had chained the gate closed. He hastily parked his car on a side street and made his way to the Condo; but he could not get into the Condo complex because the walk-thru gate was also chained closed. Just as he was trying to figure out how to get inside a group of cars including one pick-up truck loaded with gang members carrying rifles and standing up behind the cab could be seen driving right past his location. He decided the hide in the bushes and he laid down under the shrubs while these roaming gangs drove up and down his street. Gun fire and general mayham could be heard and it took him a couple hours to get nerve and opportunity to jump the fence and make haste to his second story condo. He locked himself inside, no lights and blocked his front door. He had a bad experience and after the riots were over and done, he (at my recommendation) bought himself a handgun and took some shooting lessons. You just never know when you will need to protect yourself and I feel he was lucky that night. Now he has a few Glocks and a lever gun. We have lunch once in a while and laugh about it.

I remember grandma telling me about the Watts riots as a boy and thinking: who cares?

I lived a little north of the "epicenter" in East Hollywood. The mayhem eventually spread our way by the 2nd (maybe 3rd) day. My dad owned guns, I don't even remember taking them out to look at them that week.

I do remember the Korean liquor store owner down the street standing on his rooftop with a folding stock AK-47, shooting at anything and anyone that attempted to approach his parking lot. I was sure glad I had a week's worth of soda in our fridge.

Not sure if that's in line with the gist of this thread (is anyone?), but there you go - think I better get off the lawn now.

Ahhh the "I remember when" thread.

UZI's, MAK-90's, cheap Russian SKS rifles, and pallets of Norinco ammo at the West Covina Turners.

It's about having enough. Enough, say, in case the price of ammo spikes. The last case of 9mm I bought cost me $119/1000 DELIVERED to my door. If I have enough of those, I don't CARE what the present price of 9mm is, ir whether the state is going to sock me with an ammo license, etc.

It also makes sense to take advantage of volume price discounting. I know guys who buy a box of 50 rounds at the range and simply don't shoot he last mag worth, that's ALL the ammo they keep on hand. To me, that's the dumb move, not having enough for a rainy day.

                    I respectfully disagree. 15 day wait in CA started in 1975. See link below;

The OP makes a good point bringing this up. I heard stories about Watts Riots from my Dad. I thought it could never happen again. I was living in La Habra and working in Torrance when the LA Riots occurred. I had ammo for my revolvers, nothing for my 9mm Ruger P85. I stopped at the K-Mart in Brea late on the first day of the riots. Young girl working the ammo counter. I ask for a box of 9mm, she responds with 'Copper or Lead?'. I got the feeling she sold a lot of ammo before I showed up.
I ended up driving into LA to pick-up a truck owned by my Sis and her husband. I also ended up taking in the daughters of a friend of mine that lived in Pomona. He heard gunshots and got worried about his girls. He figured they would be safer in La Habra at our house.
I now own a Mossberg 500 Pump with 20" barrel and 8 shot capacity. I do not shoot it a lot, I just don't care for it. Only reason I own it is in case another Riot happens.

During the riots I bought 9mm ammo from The Firing Line and some Amazonian looking lady at the counter was just staring at me when I got it...i think she was a cop...oh well...I was happy to get ammo and walk out

My frist handgun was bought at The Stockade in 1978, Sam was still in the store. 15 day wait. I too have a 8 shot 20 inch Mossburg. I look at the mossburg as inshurance . It is worth more than just money.

I have zero sympathy for people in that situation who suddenly NEED a gun like in todays market. Wait, you mean after three or four decades of being alive you suddenly only now have the urge to think about possible protection for you or your family? Yeah, your failure to plan is an emergency on everyone else.
