What is the minimum distance for zeroing optics

I have an aimpoint Pro and would like to zero them this weekend out in the open outdoor. Im just wondering what is the minimum distance of the target to zero optics.. I appreciate any advice..

It's personal preference. You need to understand the trajectory difference between a 25, 50, or 100 yard zero and then make your choice from there. There is no correct answer unless your employer demands that you follow a specific procedure.

Depends on the weapon system and caliber. Then preference also comes into play.

Hmmmm. Let me see.

If I was zeroing my lever gun with an Eotech that shoots 38 special. I would zero it at 50 yards.

If i was Zeroing my 510 DTC.
And I had my Nightforce 12-42 X56 scope on top with the ability to go up and down 40MOA with a 20 degree riser.
And I wanted to shoot past 1000 yards. My zero might be at 600 yards.

So your answer lies somewhere in between.

Why don't you tell us what caliber, barrel length and what optic you have. As well as what your typical shot distance might be.

That will help you get a more enlightened and accurate answer.

When all else fails. 100 yards is a typical rifle zero.

I zero my 16" Sporting rifle at 100 yds

My 22" sporting rifle at 300 yds

My 10/22 at 50 yds

My 45-70 at 75 yds

My .17 at 100yds

Finally my 12 gauge at 5'9" (AMA average) 19' distance from a 12' elevated position: basically top of the stairs to the front door (which may be preceded or followed by my choice of .45, .40, .357, .38 or if its a bad day .44 Magnum).

easy. at the furthest you plan on shooting for AR's. A really good zero is 200 or 300 yards, but 100 is fine too.

What grain round and are you shooting .223 or 5.56?

Just the RD, 25 or 50 yards, with a magnifier I would go 200 yards.

If you are going to try to kill something, 100, and adjust. Targets, who cares, just make stuff up.

I would set this up at POA and POI 50yrds.

At a 50yrd zero you won't have much hold over out to 200yrds.

Really depends on the distance you think you will shoot most at thought. 50yrd zero works great for me.
