I looked at the pictures last night. I agree it was pretty ugly. I have no idea why they would go through the trouble of redesigning the entire grip frame & slice just to add an interchangeable back strap. Also noted, that particular model did not include the thumb safety. They seem to be trying to directly compete with the SW M&P line for service pistol contracts.
I actually dread the day SA significantly changes the XD frame as any new models won't be list-able unless they figure out how to add a mag-disco and somehow figure out how to make an LCI that would pass doj muster. I would hate to see them discontinue the current XD's in favor of a new and improved version.
