You two guys need to make up and hug. Anyways, I highly doubt that it is employee safety that is the concern. Like I said, San Luis Obispo is far from being a dangerous area. Well, except for that riot they had that one year. But other than that...... Also, if they were that concerned for safety they shouldn't have the door release accessible to customers. I've been to a bunch of gun stores in some shady areas and I haven't had to be buzzed in.

Even if your WILD SPECULATION about "death threats" was true, once it became obvious that the OP and his wife WEREN'T there to kill anybody the employees (after changing their underwear and polite explanation of their preferred proceedures) should have gone back into salesman mode and happily helped the OP to spend his money.
I have no time for you. You have shown me all I need to know about you in other threads. You are not the type of honest, honorable person I want in my life.
Don't bother replying, I will not see it.
Yes you will because your over inflated ego will make you check to see what is being said about you.

I can only guess as to why the situation is what it is at this LGS, but I am not going to bad mouth the store when I was the one who did something wrong to begin with. You two guys need to make up and hug. I really don't care if they sign said, "bark like a dog to get customer service"... his shop his rules and to ***** about poor service when you didnt follow his rules is typical snobbery. If you don't want to bark like a dog...go somewhere else, don't ***** when you are treated as you treat others... disrespect is disrespect no matter who, what, where or why.Comment

Ummm, OK, but the OP didn't do anything disrespectful. Even if he did do something wrong the employees should've said something instead of acting like pricks. I really doubt it was anything personal directed at them.I can only guess as to why the situation is what it is at this LGS, but I am not going to bad mouth the store when I was the one who did something wrong to begin with.

I never cared about the door buzzer, didn't think it was a problem or liked it. Santa Maria Tacticool has one too but it's a gate inside the store. But I don't think that's the main problem everyone is having with Rangemasters.
The problem is when you go to the counter they just ignore you. I was clearly looking to buy a pistol and was trying to ask questions. I would get almost a yes or no answer and they would simply walk away.... Just being ignored and talked down to... It wasn't an isolated experience, every time I've gone in it's been like this. I've just chosen not to return and I'll be gladly to spend my money at other stores.
Check out Atascadero Firearms, Kelly's Firearms(Templeton), and Shoot the Moon(Paso) All are great when you walk in or when you call just to see what they have.Comment

I wonder if any of the people complaining about the security at the front door are LTC holders, or want to be?
It seems silly to rag on this gun store security, and then claim that you need to sneak around Disneyland and Safeway with a gun, after being told that you are not welcome there.
The fact is that trouble can be found anywhere.
Maybe, since there is an indoor range there, and people will be walking in with guns, the insurance company insists on this type of security.
It's a moot point nonetheless.
I've lived in SLO county for almost 40 years.
If there is a "bad" part if town, this is it
The homeless shelter is right down the street, there are transients everywhere around there.
SLO PD has had a big issue ticketing homeless people sleeping in their cars down the street on Prado.
I like the other gun shops mentioned above, they are all much smaller.
Are you serious about Harbor Gun in Morro Bay?
Talk about a surly old curmudgeon.
I'm not saying that you folks were not treated as you liked at Rangemasters
But the fact is, I know the owner and his wife
If you spoke to him, you would get satisfaction, and that's a factComment

I've lived in SLO all my 52 years. I went to Rangemasters exactly once, 10 years ago...and that was too many times."A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......CiceroComment

OK, but being buzzed into the store isn't going to stop someone from pulling a gun or robbing the place so it's really just an added inconvenience to everyone else. Since you know the owner and his wife why don't you ask why they need the door control? Again, if they are so worried about the security then a customer leaving shouldn't be able to control the door.I wonder if any of the people complaining about the security at the front door are LTC holders, or want to be?

maybe they want to see who is coming in...maybe its a certain person they are looking for...or who they don't want coming in.OK, but being buzzed into the store isn't going to stop someone from pulling a gun or robbing the place so it's really just an added inconvenience to everyone else. in any event...its not your business, so they really don't need to explain to you why they want to do it that way.
just don't go there...its that easy.
Do you know why an electric ell doesn't kill with its electric shock...it teaches its foe not to touch it. Maybe the staff at this store is rude so people who ignore their sign don't come back.

this thread has taken a turn, I will say it again, the only employee who saw us come in was the first lady, the method of entry we used was NOT known by any of the other employees or communicated to them and had ZERO affect on how the rest of the staff treated us, which was poor and what I was trying to share with others
I'm a very positive person and freely give people the benefit of the doubtSI VIS PACEM, PARA BELLUMComment

I apologize that my comment, which was supposed to be a sarcastic dig at the shop, allowed the thread to veer so far off course. I had no idea that dieselpower would go off into his fantasy world where the employees were somehow getting death threats.this thread has taken a turn, I will say it again, the only employee who saw us come in was the first lady, the method of entry we used was NOT known by any of the other employees or communicated to them and had ZERO affect on how the rest of the staff treated us, which was poor and what I was trying to share with others

As you state the PERTINENT information was the entirely uncalled for attitudes of an ENTIRE shop full of employees.Last edited by Steve_In_29; 04-16-2013, 9:31 PM.Comment

Wouldn't that be just like asking an LTC holder, why he thinks he needs to carry a gun for security?OK, but being buzzed into the store isn't going to stop someone from pulling a gun or robbing the place so it's really just an added inconvenience to everyone else. Since you know the owner and his wife why don't you ask why they need the door control? Again, if they are so worried about the security then a customer leaving shouldn't be able to control the door.
I wouldn't ask someone that, that's a question an anti would ask.
Obviously he thinks it helps. Maybe if there were several people at the door at once, he wouldn't buzz them in, and get rushed.
It's also obviously not foolproof, as you mention in your example. What is?
Isn't this just like getting buzzed in at some high rise apartments?
They aren't foolproof, so should these apartment dwellers just leave the door unlocked?
I doubt the answer is, "I decided to spend a bunch of money, just to piss every one off"
In any event, it's his call, and in my mind, a moot point.
Lots of other reasons to not like the place I guess, like poor customer service and bad attitude
None of which I have experienced, and if I did, I would speak up there, not here.Comment

I personally dont go there anymore because of the way I was treated.
But...Their parking lot is nearly full all day. They do have issues with the homeless carrying on in that area as well as their old shop on Granada. I dont blame them for the added security. It is intimidating for the first time.
Atascadero Arms is friendly and helpful. There is a new shop on San Anselmo in Atascadero that seems busy. I havent been in there so I cant speak to what they have or dont have.

Lunatic is more like it. The Antis couldn't create a worse stereotype. Range Masters, back in the day, was a Great Shop. These days it is really hit & miss. I get treated reasonably because I have bought there enough to be recognised. I've also seen some really obnoxious people get buzzed through that door, although that doesn't excuse the 'tude that often surfaces from employees...Overall it could be a better experience with a just a little more effort on staff's part. Four Seasons is an Excellent LGS, no complaints whatsoever.Comment
