Tips for getting ammo at a store?

Everywhere I call and almost every thread I read people are saying that ammo is selling out as soon as stores open. I am considering going to a walmart or something a few hours before they open and getting in line.

Has anyone ever done this before? Is it a free for all once the doors open with people running and fighting each other for ammo? How early in general do people start lining up? 1-2 hours before opening? 3-4? I call 3 diff wal-marts 2 big 5's, bass pro, turners and ammo brothers like 5 times a day and no one ever has anything but they all say to come early.

I would like to do it but I am worried i'll wait all night and there won't be anything on the shelves the first 40 times I try. Any tips would be nice!

The big five I went to said a line usually starts before opening and the ammo goes pretty quick. They only get about 10 boxes at a time(per caliber I think). You have to find out exactly what day they expect the shipment. I'm guessing maybe 30 mins to an hour before opening.
Do I look like I'm ready for homework?

Keep in mind, do not gouge, With my barter I asked for what I wanted knowing the price of what I had and what I wanted was very close in value.

Just do what I did flirt with the girls that work at big 5, and get your foot in the door now All I have to do is call and have them hold ammo if I want.

Turners in Kearney mesa told me 3 weeks ago, Tues morning they had 80 people in line. Not surprised, I asked if they handed out numbers before they open, they said "not for ammo" I'm pretty vocal about not liking them for guns, with good reason, but I'd buy ammo. Wait in line for a free for all, I dont think so. I agree with being nice though, it makes a difference. I've had a lot of ammo & it hasnt been a "need" at least not yet.

I have built a relationship with my local big5. I bought over priced ammo from them before the panic and now I buy alot of reasonable priced ammo from them. I also used to party alot with the assistant manager in high school so they wave the ammo restrictions that they have for me.

I've had good luck going to Walmart right before closing, that's when all the boxes are being wheeled in straight off the trucks. If there's a big stack of boxes in the sporting good area you could get lucky. Ask the worker if there's any ammo in thoses boxes, usually they know or if not they'll check. I've got lucky using this metioned many many times. Just head over to Walmart at 10:30-10:45.

Gotta put in the time to learn the delivery schedules. I'm pretty sure that if you got in line 2 hours before opening then you'll be sitting by yourself for 2 hours.

Paranoia. No thanks, I'll just sit home and let the the tinfoilers go bat sheit. Lots more to life than living in a panic standing in line 3 hours prior to a store opening....

I just check Walmarts ammo when I'm there and they almost always have something I want. Its not that hard to find ammo you just have to look a little bit.

I just go into the garage and use the reloading press when I need ammo.
