Sequoia National Forest, firearms legal and welcome.
          (upper kern)

No legal issues, plus rangers are usually gun friendly.
On top of that if it's in your tent, you should be fine.

I agree two leggers are also a reason why you should have
          protection.

Been camping,Hiking,Hunting since 1967 and the only thing I take or need or want is a hand gun, and stay's in my truck or my tent at night.

Protection...? SPF50 or better, and bug spray. Lots of bug spray. I've seen bears, mountain lions, and coyotes out there. Those dont bother me nearly as much as the freaken mosquitos.

If I were in grizzly country, I'd pack something more than bug spray.

Just an update, during the second day of our three day camp, someone came to the area we were at and set off some explosives, right after the boom i herd a girl scream, a few seconds later a guy yelling "calm the f*** down"

By the time i felt it was safe enough to go take a look, i saw a burt shirt, and two half melted slippers. My wife was more curious then i was after the explosion.

I have noticed the lions, tigers and bears tend to hide their food from me (I am 6'3" and 250lbs) when I am camping, so I generally don't take anything for protection.

I generally carry a g17 with my legal, standard mags. I used to carry a 1911, but i prefer the extra capacity and the fact that my g17 get better with scratches while my 1911 makes me cringe. The last few times I have gone camping/backpacking, i havn't carried because CA makes it difficult/illegal/confusing/a huge hassle.\

but i prefer the true essence of camping...in a tent, and not having to yell across the fire due to the obnoxiously loud generator your a$shat freind is running nonstop the entire weekend
