I'm pretty sure I know how he was duped into destroying it.

I know his type
He Played Football in School and was a Jock used to pick on the nerds
Sometime around his 30s he realized he isn't intimidating any nerds anymore because the nerds he picked on in High School are now his bosses.
He thought long and hard about how to seem cool and dangerous and then did the same thing every one in his situation does. He bought a Harley and became "a bad ***** biker 1%"
But something was still missing he still felt like the wanker he really was. So he went to the Gun store and bought a gun based only on looks. He showed it off to people to show he was dangerous and not to be messed with. I mean he rides a Harley and has a Gun he is just like those hells angels.
This year he heard some liberal say that only wusses have guns and real men only need fists to protect themselves an their families. So in his mind he thought "If I get rid of my Gun I will seem tougher because Ill seem like a real man who only needs my fists to protect myself and my family. But what should I do about my gun? I showed to everyone I know over the years they will all think I am a wussy now. Should I tell them all what I am doing ? No, I know Ill make a video and they will all see it and it wont seem like I am trying to impress anyone."
