It's his gun to ruin, but if there is ever more than one person that threatens him at home, he might wish he didn't hammer his gun to pieces. I think he thinks he is more "macho" than everybody that didn't just smash their own property in a tantrum to prove a point. Oh well. He could have sold that gun and donate the money to a charity or something, and that would have done more good.
