Why do indoor ranges only allow certain ammo?

Why is it that indoor ranges only allow certain ammo to be shot? I can understand outdoor ranges and fire hazards but is there the same fire hazard indoors? Most of the local ranges here do not allow steel cased ammo or magnetic ammo to be shot, anyone know why that is?

Shrapnel hazard or the possibility of punching through the steel plate backdrop when I asked a range officer awhile back.

steel core ammo tears up the stop plates real bad and can potentially go through in extreme cases. Plus why would they want steel cases, they cannot reload those...another form of income via reloads.

Depends on the backstop, ventilation system, insurance, municipal codes, personal preference of the business owner and, if they want to separate the steel from the brass for recycling.

Of the two indoor ranges I go to, Targetmasters in Milpitas only allows brass or nickel cases ammo because they recycle and don't want to have to pick the aluminum and steel out. Jackson's in SSF doesn't seem to care, I shoot Blazer aluminum case ammo there all the time.
Whatever rules a range has on ammo, just be happy the range even exists. Its their range, their rules.

All metal can be sold as scrap. Steel and aluminum are just not as valuable as brass.

                    10% safety.

90% economics. Do yuo know how much they make selling overpriced reloads to people who thought they were going to shoot their own ammo?

Bullets with exposed lead at the base will make lead fumes. If the range's ventilation doesn't meet certain standards they must specify NT type ammo. Fully encased/plated bullets and lead free primers. This is why we have the .45ACP with SPP brass.

Ever shoot alot at an indoor range and then have to blow your nose ? If its black and that has happend many times to me the ventilation system works poorly and you are breathing burnt powder and if you are shooting nonjacketed bullets ....lead ( very bad ).

I've seen some cool spark shows shooting wolf and bear ammo indoors. Probably not safe.

Magnetic ammo = steel core = military design = innocence-seeking, evil, cop-exploding, weapon of mass destruction.
