    Concealed Carry at Range?

I did a quick search and didn't turn anything up but is it legal to carry on your hip or anywhere on your body a loaded and chambered firearm exposed or concealed? This would be for an outdoor range like Burro Canyon, Angeles or at BLM land. I don't do this but I have friends who practice firing from a holster and on occasion it becomes concealed with the clothes they are wearing.

Depends on the range rules. You'd have to call the local ranger station to find out about BLM land, as the rules vary from location to location.

The range will address this issue in their rules, I'm sure.

      I belong to a private sportsman's association

And their rules say no carrying concealed, or drawing from holsters.

Personally, I don't really want to be next to Johnny Ringo anyway.

Most ranges I've been to specifically prohibit even drawing from a holster, let alone concealed carry. The only place I've been able to do this, in California anyway, was at a training class.

Most private ranges frown on concealed carry or open carry on their ranges. They usaully have signs at the exit asking you if you rememberd to load your CC weapon lol :<)..I know Sac valley does.

Ok so it sounds like its not a matter of law since its on private property. It depends on what the range rules are.

Burro Canyon allows you to draw from a holster only on private ranges, not on the public range. You can practice drawing from concealed as well. I have done so before when I had a private range after asking.

You can carry a firearm openly if unloaded, and the action is locked open.

At Angeles no drawing from a holster, no guns, even in cases, allowed in their office, when moving between firing lanes, tables, etc, encased, or pointed upward with action locked open

Some ranges I have been to make LEO exceptions. Burro does not. Private range only.

I live in a state where a concealed carry permit is $10. And even here, holster draws are not allowed.

For good reason, that is the case. Remember the fact that most gun owners aren't Travis Haley students. Judging by the manhole cover sized patterns most shooters post slow fire on the line at 7 yards , the only thing patrons would hit doing holster draws is the shooter next to them.

If you really want to do live fire holster practice, do what I do: find an isolated place in the middle of nowhere which is legal to shoot from , and have fun. Just don't pull a Grebner!

I concur with the aboves. Some of the ranges have action shooting or IDPA type private ranges. Same for up here. Ya can't carry on the public ranges but like a trap or skeet club you can pay for the private range.

Yeah but I don't recall seeing anything against CC for those with LTC's.

Depends on the range. Most don't allow carrying holstered and loaded firearms due to safety reasons. Some ranges will allow holster work, but usually require you to take a qualification with range officers first. Those ranges also don't allow the guns to be loaded, when your just walking around. Too many idiots out there. Trust me I used to work at a range and I've had many guns pointed at me and the ND's that happened were usually LEO's unloading their off duty carry guns before they entered.

Sac Valley allows holster work on their ranges, but you need to take their qualification course first. Unless your with a approved instructor. I also believe they don't want us walking around in the parking lot with our guns hot. They do want us to load our carry guns, when we leave though

I shoot at the private bays at Sac Valley. I carry in, practice my draws and shooting and carry out.

Copy that. No range is going to tell me where my CCW is legal. They shouldn't even know you have it in the first place though.

And just to expand/clarify JoshuaS' answer about Burro Canyon, the ONLY place you can have a holstered weapon is on a private range. No holsters in the common areas, offices, or anywhere else.
