No, materials, supplies, costs to operate, everything across the board are heading higher and will continue to go higher, JMHO.
Anyone that tells you otherwise has their head buried in sand.
Any legal business owner would agree that costs are heading higher. -
No.
$2000 is the new normal price for an AR. Parts are backordered between 6 and 12 months, and you'd better believe there WILL be another spree shooting before the supply chain adjusts. When the next nutcase loses it, there won't be a price because there won't be any guns available to buy.The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

The current price increase has nothing to do with business costs. If no law passes, there will be a glut on the market. If a law passes, you will be stuck with them, and they will be untransferable, so unless you want to sell on the black market, they will be worthless. If ammo stays at 3 to 4 times the price, it will shake out any new shooters, and many exsisting shooters. Not good for the RTBA.Comment

I was told by an old marine once that the .223/556 is a varmint round. It all but replaced the .308 because it was less lethal and easier to carry. The result was more ammo and more frequently, wounded soldiers. This effectively removed 2 or 3 from battle as one wounded man needed 1 or 2 to carry him.
Armed forces aside...
1$ a round for a supersonic 22 is freakin rediculous. For 2k$ I'd have a proper AK (WASR/SKS etc...), 1000 rounds of 7.62x39, and still have 1000$ left over to build the most bad *** tactical ruger 10/22 you could dream of. I believe I should keep my mouth shut, as .20 cents a round for 7.62x39 makes for 5X's more trigger time for the same $, behind a more powerful projectile....but do I really think anyone will listen?

My AR is 7.62x39, so that if/when we get invaded, I can shoot their ammo back at them!

Ban or not, suppliers all the way down to raw material are backordered at least a year out, they're not coming down for a long time. In addition, Oba,a's economic policies will sure cause more radical inflation. $700 ARs are no more, even the 22lr ones.Comment

If the marketplace were left alone in a vacuum, you'd be correct.
Sadly , that's not the case. Guns have two enemies according to the old saw-politicians and rust. The same people in power in 2012 will be calling the shots for the next 4 years, during which time its all but certain there will be another violent incident. As Loopwell put it, the supply chain for the AR platform is broken , down to the ammo even.
It'll take at least 12 months for the supply to catch up with demand, and by that point Obama's bad economic policy will keep the price high via inflation. What $800 bought you last year will be worth $1500 by mid 2014.If there's another "window" where Obama decides we need more Executive Regulation on firearms, the backorders will go into the stratosphere. The more prohibitions you have, the less virtuous people will be.
The more subsidies you have, the less self reliant people will be.

Not quite. That is a tactic, not the reason the 223/5.56 was used. They wanted the 223 due to the size & weight of the round. The more ammo you carry into a fight the longer you can stay there.
Pitting a squad carrying 308 up against a squad carrying 7.62x39 was found favoring the 7.62x39. Change that to a squad carrying 223 and you increase the firepower allowing them to out last the 7.62x39. Longer range, twice the ammo. 1/2 the storage used...which allows room for other gear.
