My wife worked at Highlands Hospital in Oakland and it was nothing to see GSW's every week. i've picked her up and saw a car with bullet holes thru the windshield parked infront of the hospital. 1 exit hole out of 3. driver shot twice and drove to the hospital. Oakland, Richmond, Emeryville are like a war zone. I was born and raised there till the late 60's and it was always a violent place.

Now I don't have to worry about getting shot while driving home by some dumbass with an AK-47 on his front seat. Reasons like this make me want to carry but Alameda CO won't issue CCW and I like staying out of jail.

Read the Illiad - pouring out a libation for the dead dates back to ancient Greek times. It's also a tradition observed by some Army SF guys. The guy who taught me how to shoot was in 5th group and said it's something they all do any time they drink outside where there's accessible dirt. That having been said, I'm not sure if it's truly something they ALL do, or just his buddies.

That having been said, pouring it out on the sidewalk is just lame. Dirt is a different matter.
